Time to admit I have a Problem!.....

Options
Hello all,

I am 25 years old, getting married this year, have a new baby, but am struggling to quit gambling.

Tonight for instance, I have just lost again online playing black jack. I know i will wake up with a very sick feeling in my stomach...and rightly so!

I have a fairly decent job earining 25k a year but have about 10k on two credit cards (interest free). I have recently done a budget using the excellent spread sheet when I last quit gambling. I used to have a small dabble on just about everything, horses, football, real casino, online casino, roulette machines in the bookies etc.

I need to go cold turkey, and i needed to tell you all, thanks for listening

I have just read ur post and i wanna say u are not alone. I lost about £1000 in two days last week and i have since then changed all my online passwords to ones i cant remember. I have only just stopped in the last five days and i commend u for comming out and admitting u have a problem. I thought i was on my own. I hope my little suggestion of closing your eyes and setting a password u cant posssibly remember helps. I think its about time this site has a Gambling free wanna be forum.
  • Sorry to hear you guys have a gambling problem fortunetly i dont but i can sympathise as a member of my close family had a drug problem and this was painfull.
I dont know if your family or partners may know of your problem but certainly you need to tell them.
A good tip my dad said to me was that money is so hard to earn we spend upto 40 hrs a week or more earning it. But we can loose it within i minuites. true words from a wise loving man.
good luck to you and others who may be suffering with this addiction
  • Thanks guys.
Kaz you are certainly not alone.i started off gambling very small, but its now come to a head and this is the first time i have lost massive. the trouble with online gambling is you dont hand over the cash!

Changing the passwords is a great idea. Im going to do that straight away. Another problem i have is at work. its a bit slow at the moment so at break times i wander off to the bookies! leaving the wallet at home should help.

    Hello,

At least you've acknowledged that you have a problem, it's the first step. I'm not a gambling addict but I can understand how hard it is to realise you have a problem/addiction. Well done you!

Somebody recently said to me that when you visit a race track, be it dogs or horses (or any other gambling establishment), there will always be two types of cars in the car parks. On side, will be the fancy Mercs, Jags, TVRs etc and on the other side, the bangers. The former will always belong to the owners of the gambling establishment and the latter will always belong to the punters.

Keep that picture of the car park in your mind when you're about to place a bet. All you're doing is funding someone's luxury lifestyle.

Good luck and keep posting on here! I agree that there should be a gambling board.

I just read your last post...next time you go to the bookies, see if you can see the owner's car outside. If you can, imagine that he will be upgrading it soon and that you will be helping to fund that. If not, just remember it's bound to be in his large driveway along with cars two and three. xx

Thanks for the reply .The only gambling i have done is online gambling and u are absolutely correct cos i am not handing the cash over its very easy, But i strongly believe i will STOP this time around as for starters i cant even log on to all my accounts any more. Pennies i will post my full SOA and situation in a few weeks time ... just to give all the wonderful ppl on this site my bigger picture. Here's an idea...something I saw on Spendaholics....in your wallet, keep a picture of a nice car, house...whatever rocks your boat. Then also have a picture of a banger, run-down house etc. Remind yourself that for as long as you keep paying money to the bookies, casinos ect, you will never be able to afford the first picture.
  • The first thing I do when I get home( or want to do after i play with my little boy) is turn on the internet for poker or what ever. now i will turn on this forum. I want a debt free date. how do you go about setting a realistic one? also whats soa? i have emailed coral for self exclusion, can't bet there now for 6 months. have also changed my ladbrokes password. betfair next.

I think SOA mean situation of affairs its basically a thread listing all ur incomings and outgoings as well as all ur debts ... credit cards loans etc. The money saving experts on this site look at it and tell u ways u can make cut backs with a view to reducing ur debt. WELL done for excluding urself Fantastic idea.If i have a lapse and get tempted to go on william hill again i will be mailing them for exclusion instead( :T )
