£125 pw for a 2 bed London flat? GUMTREE

in House buying, renting & selling
Saw lots of 2 bed flats in London (incl Ealing, Clapham, Walworth, and Mayfair!) for £500 pcm. One that shocked me was for a 2 bed HOUSE in Chelsea for £500pcm. Are these genuine? Is that the price for London flats or all scam?:confused:

I also swear I saw the same picture of a bedroom for 2 locations but can't be sure as I saw 100s last night.

How likely is it that so many flats with 2 bed are priced exactly £125 per week.? Thinking it is same person putting up almost all the ads..


Just need some advice as to whether this price really is the market rate for a 2 bed London flat. thanks

    you won't even get a 2 bed place out in zone 3/4 for that money so less than zero chance in zone 1

    Stinks of a scam to me, probably someone collecting numerous holding deposits, then disapearing (seems too obvioulsy low though for someone to fall for it).

    My flats in Battersea on other side of the river to Chelsea (good area but cheaper) rent for just under £1,200 to £1,600/month

    Nah, DS1 pays £130 pw for his bedsit in zone 4. We did look at a few places in the £110-120 region but they were grim, very grim.

    However, I am seeing that a lot of the places which were available in May are still available now, so perhaps rents ARE coming down due to tenants being thin on the ground. This deal doesn't sound at all realistic though...

    it's quite easy to get your gumtree advert wrong, and put in the monthly cost as the weekly cost and vice versa. therefore it is possible that these places are £500pw rather than pcm...

    however, any rental property on gumtree that isn't advertised through a proper well established letting agent should be treated with absolute caution and you should never hand money to anyone until you have established that they actually own the property.

    normal price for a 2 bed in clapham is anywhere from £1,000 - £2,000 pcm depending on whether it's an ex-LA crap hole or a bit posh. £500pcm is a mistake or a scam.

    There is a similar post on MSE somewhere about flat to rent on Gumtree. Basically, you say you want it and then get a email saying they are a vicar living abroad and could you fill out this questionaire, send a deposit, send your pics..... next thing you will be £1k out of pocket and your pic will be on someones fake id. It has scam written all over it I'm afraid.

    No. consistently all say same thing. for 2 bed flats!
