Is this a scam/con?
Options
I received an email yesterday supposedly from "Carphone Warehouse". I am not sure if its legit.
This is what I got:
From: Maria Walsh <mariaw@lbm.co.uk
To: (my email address but I just removed it)
Subject: redemption
Dear Customer
Thank your for your email. I appreciate your patience in awaiting a reply.
I will be happy to assist you in this matter, however, the previous email we received did not contain enough information for us to access your details on our system.
We will need you to forward your name, postcode, customer number and mobile number and a brief outline of your question in order to look into this for you.
Once I have this information I will investigate your query, You can also contact a member of our team on 0870 0870 168, option 2.
Thank you,
Claire Kelly

Ok, first of all the names don't match. Maria and Claire?
Secondly, this number "0870 0870 168", is that a legit number?
Thirdly, the email used "mariaw@lbm.co.uk", does carphone warehouse have emails like that?
If it is fake, I just reckon these people should be sent to prison for life. This is not on, conning people like this. Sometimes you just feel like grabbing these people and throwing them in the deep sea and make them suffer and suffer and give them 2 really hard slaps on the face each.

It looks amateur I agree, but it's definitely not a scam.

Yeah, thats true but the names dont match and the email address is not from cpw domain either.
Would posting the full email headers be of any help here?0 -
I used to work for cpw and do know of a Claire Kelly that works there (and thats my sister-in-laws name, but anyway) but she works in a store in Ireland....ok thats no help at all. I wouldnt reply to the email, I'd call them to find out whats going on.0

But I don't think this is the case. As I have already said, LBM is the company that handles calls on behalf of CPW.

calls or emails?
The other emails I have received from CPW all end with cpw.co.uk, so not sure why some of the are lbm.co.uk.
And secondly, why would they write "Dear Customer"
in all my other CPW emails, they write the name of customer so obviosuly something is wrong0 -

If you have never made an enquiry then it's a scam - delete the email as you would with any other junk. End of story.0 -

If you have definitely not contacted CPW redemptions recently or sent in a chequeback then I would call them and ask why they are requesting your details. Alternatively, just ignore it.happyhunter wrote:If you have never made an enquiry then it's a scam - delete the email as you would with any other junk. End of story.
