don't seem to see any other postings on this subject ..(and i'm lost finding my way round now that "300 recent posts" isn't working !!!! )
but looking at our 18866 online itemised bill we are being charged 5p a call as of this morning.
don't know whether the other ...1899.. etc are /have moved.
i still haven't had a reply to my email i sent to 18866 a couple of months ago when they went from 3p to 4p asking if the others were going to go up and/or whether i should change.
Just the thought of trying to get all the family to change the habit of dialling 18866 was daunting!!
Would think on such a large topic as this one , that MSE Towers could help and take a lead ... sure they must have a rapport and priveleged phone contact with these guys ... , to find out the score ... and any comments or recommendations that can be publicised.
Todays question of course being .. "what should i do... do i change to one of the other numbers or are they going to move up now / soon." ??
HELP !! (lots of us !)

18866 now charging 5p connection - http://www.call18866.co.uk/index2.php
1899 still charging 3p connection - http://www.call1899.co.uk/index2.php
18185 still charging 4p 'startup fee' - http://www.18185.co.uk/index2.phpTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
ARTICLE READS ...
The Simple Solution. Call18185 is the overall cheapest override provider, charging 4p per call to landlines, no matter how long you speak for, compared to BT’s 3p/min. Set up a monthly Direct Debit on the internet and then make calls by first dialing its ‘18185’ prefix number to access its network for free, then dialing the number you’re calling, To make it easier, set up the prefix on a programmable button on your phone.
It’s also dirt cheap for calling mobiles, costing a 4p connection fee plus 5p/min weekdays and 2p/min weekends. Compare this to BT’s 12p-22p/min daytimes and 4p-8p/min weekends (depending on network called).
Heinz ... it only needed another sentence to say " there is also 18185 at xp landlines and 1899 at yp landlines , but their mobile costs are higher".
To totally omit mention 18185 and 1899 is wrong.
I would never use my landline for calling mobiles.. i use my mobile inclusive minutes0 -
sorry i meant 18866 and 18990

Why do people use 18866? Aren't 1899 or 18185 (depending on the call) cheaper?0

pound, that's exactly the query i'm raising !!.
at one time there was only 18866
then ...same company owned them .. the others launched.
at first they were the same price.
at a point in time 18866 went up... i raised the query as to whether the others would just follow and particularly with them all being owned by the same company .
i didn't want to get all he family to change their memories .. if it wasn't worth it.
it does look as though we should change to 1899 now at 3p instead of 5p .
my original posting today was to ask mse towers if they could check out what the score was. .. ie is it worth changing.
pretty straightfoward logic i reckon.0 -

Maybe you should get a dialler.....
1899 are cheaper for some calls......18185 for some.....08444620002...for some....BT for some..etc0 -
There's no harm in setting up with 1899. You can set up an account in a couple of minutes.0

fbrj.. fair point ... if it's going to get more complicated then we probably should .
we had a fairly straightforward system ..
any time ... if ringing mobiles everyone just use their own mobiles inclusive minutes ... (and indeed if a landline number just for a minute or two...ie batter than paying 4p )
anytime ... if ringing landlines everyone use landline with 18866
didn't need anything more than that .. but if it's going to get more complicated then dialler route probably right0
