Pretty awful conditions but if you take the supermarket approach to selling dogs what do you expect?

Thanks for posting the link as I am after buying a dog at the moment and live just up the road from manchester. That poor poor dog in the first pic it breaks my heart

it is dreadful - people have been protesting outside these shops for ages, but people still walk past them, and go and buy pups from these places... it seems as if lots of people would rather not know, or do not consider the ethics of buying a live animal any more than they consider the ethics of purchasing a household appliance.
this webite is one of many campaiging against this sort of cruel and unethical practice...

lol!:rotfl:
yeah, for starters you could try www.dogsblog.com
and www.dogpages.org.uk - you could post a 'wanted' in the homes offered forum there too...
there is manchester dogs home near you too, but I do not know how good they are with assessing dogs etc - I think they act as a pound too, and are a big place, so they may not know the dogs as well as a smaller rescue, but could be worth a try.
what sort of a dog are you looking for? i.e. age, activity levels, will you be home all the time or do you need a dog that can be left at home whilst you work? do you have small children, (or are you likely to in the future), do you have any other pets, dogs cats etc?
Generally - I would avoid ads in the Sun etc, reputable breeders do not generally post ads in places like that, and there are a lot of scammers advertising pups that do not even exist!0 -
I was also going to go to the Manchester dogs home at the weekend too i've looked at the website

I was looking for a collie or a labrador, my OH is home all day and I'll be home at night so there will be someone there everyday and also there is a small !!!!! westie which is friendly with other dogs
Not having kids for a good few years yet about 6-8 years lol I don't have the patients for kids but I do dogs! I have got a labrador at my mums house too but she wouldn't really see the new dog. Other than that I've got some fish
this is the website i've been looking at, http://oldham.local.thesun.co.uk/sale/pet/dog/-/-/M24%206FU/+50/
So I don't know if it is a scammers website or not. I hope not there are quite a few lab pups on there I like the look of
Many thanks

have a look on dogsblog - if you look there is a right hand column where you can look at dogs by breed - there are a lot of labs, collies and collie/lab crosses - also some very nice dogs in the 'unknown crossbreeds' section - and they are all a bit individual!
A 'home offered' ad on dogpages would also probably lead to some information about suitable dogs, as lots of rescues use the site and may be able to suggest suitable dogs...
re: scams - some of them use photos from genuine breeders, but are infact pften posted by scammers who are not even in the UK - lots of them can be spotted as they offer to have a pup 'delivered' to you... never buy a pup without seeing the parents, and do remember pups come up in rescue too - although I would always go for a slightly older dog, as I would rather avoid the mess and destruction stage - a lot of pups sem to be given up to rescue at 6 months to a year, as they are just hard work! (younger pups available through rescue are often the result of a pregnant b1tch being abandoned, or handed in, so pups are born in rescue)0 -
Thanks for your help I'm on dogsblog now I'd give all the dogs a home if I could

I looked on the RSPCA website yesterday there was a german shepard cross with a collie the mum had come in pregnant and had 10 pups but it's about 300 miles away from me and I don't think it would be fair for a dog to travel all that way.

Already suggested DP, well worth a look Steph!0

is this dog near you? - she looks such a sweetie (sorry, not a lab or a collie, but i just couldnt resist the sad eyes!)

if you are going to look for a breeder, please do research carefully, to ensure you are not supporting puppy farming - or, as suggested, look for a good rescue - there are planty of nice dogs out there!0
