My FF has given in less than 2-months after purchase.
Do I contact the retailer or the manufacturer in this case?
Can I insist on a replacement instead of a service engineer?
Regards

You must contact the retailer you got it from.
And no, you can't insist on a replacement...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

ok put it another way, if I am offered the choice of a replacement or engineer, my instinct would be a replacement subject to timescale. If I decide on an engineer and then the machine breaks down again, would I invalidate my option to a replacement later or is that an urban legend?"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

You're very unlikely to be offered the choice. And it wouldn't make any difference to your options later onSquirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

ok thanks. I will see what is offered and I really hope this is not the start of regular engineer visits or I will reject the item as not fit for purpose and also take the matter up with my credit card company.
I am very dissappointed that the item has packed up within 2-months and I have lost a fridge load of food and now I have to waste time engaging in getting it working. I am really fed up with it."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0 -

if this does turn out to be a manufacturing fault do I have a strong case to claim my loss on food from the manufacturer? It comes to about £75 and is within my excess."enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

yes, if appliance is faulty you have a case but they will prob need to see some evidence of food loss. i.e. packaging.0

on a general point, if a fridge freezer develops a fault in the first year (in fact first few months), will it be unreliable throughout its life, or will it be okay?"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

That's asking the impossible. If the fault is fixed, the f/f may go on fine for a long time after. Or, it may have the same fault a few months down the line.
