My phone contract is now running past its expiry date (which was 20th july) so im now looking into getting a new mobile and wanted to know what the best deal is out there? my contract:
Provider: Orange
Talk Time:700 mins
Texts: unlimited
free insurance
Mobile: Sony Ericsson K850i (worse phone dont ever get btw)

Obviously this contract was 18 months ago now, so times have changed alot since then
Preferably i would be after a contract fairly close, although i probably dont need as many minutes (talktime) but would like to add online use too.
I know the obvious best phone out there is the Iphone 3gs, which i really do like, although contract wise on price of what ive seen comes nothing to what i have at the moment, plus i dont wanty to be tied down for 24 months ??
Plus i know if i was to go with O2 on the iphone, the next day O2 would announce they have lost the exclusive rights and ORANGE will announce they will be selling it lol
So any advice would be much appreciated? also here the HTC HERO is a good phone??

Ha that makes sense, although in my defense i did not know there was one :s lol
  • I have had an HTC Touch HD for about 3 months and I am really pleased with it. £40 a mobnth gets me 1200 minutes, unlimited texts and 512 thingies of web access. I use the mobile web access a lot to access emails (ok it doesn't have push email, but I set my accounts to check every 5 minutes) and also for TomTom GPRS Traffic, and I always have plenty of access left.

I have a K850i, and think it is a great phone - providing you are on the most recent firmware release. My last one was a cheap nokia 1650 that kept turning itself off when texting then pressing Send and the whole message was lost. Only 1 month old too.

You can get the iPhone on an 18 month contract.

A 16 GB iPhone 3GS costs £87 when you take the £44 a month contract. For that you get 1200 minutes, 500 texts, and unlimited internet.

If you were to take the same contract over 24 months, you'd get the iPhone for free.
  • Why not buy a sim only plan?

E.g, T-mobile solo 20: 600 minutes, unlimited texts, free internet (fair usage policy applies) £20 per month, 30 day contract. Then invest your monthly saving in a new phone? (Tip: carphone warehouse PAYG phones are unlocked, a good way to get an unlocked phone without paying 'sim free' prices.)

Of course if you must have an iphone then you're stuck with O2 for the moment.

First of all, find a good deal and then phone your current provider and ask what they'll offer you.

As for the phone, don't go with the latest newest all singing all dancing phone...... Just yesterday 3 phoned me about my free upgrade, they wanted to give me this new LG touch screen thing, I said no!
9 times in 10 you'll get something that's not ready for consumer use, full of bugs and glitches and doesnt do half of what it should.

I had a SE K800i for two years in a row..... Damn solid phone, did what it should so why change? ive now gone with the SE W595, should turn up today.
