Somebody has my card details online, how can I stop it?

Any help much appreciated, this morning logged on to online banking to find out there was an amount pending (nearly £300) that I have not spent or bought anything. So phoned bank up who advised me to go get some cash out straight away and they would then block my card so did this and in between going to get the cash and phoning the bank again nearly another £200 was pending to be taken. Now obviously the bank are sending me a new card and see if these amounts have actually been claimed within the next couple of days, if not, the amount will be put back onto my avaiable balance, if they have been taken then their fraud team will look into it, after I have filled a form out, then the money will then be credited to my account.
So my question is, how can I stop this happening, if I can at all. I shop a great deal online and am careful to use only sites that are secure and have the padlock etc etc but is there some kind of protection I can download, I have AVG Anti Virus etc and Comodo (sp?) Defender, regurally use CCleaner, Adaware and Sypbot so is there something else I could use to stop this from happening again ?
Any ideas most welcome and also if you have any idea of how it was done?
Thanks in advance

Providing you have a secure computer, your card details are more likely to have been stolen in a shop, restaurant or petrol station than online.
I'd recommend using Firefox with the add-on NoScript, this combination is far more secure than using other browsers.0 -
I presume you have Firewall as well ?
I would install this ,update it and scan your computer .

Isofa is correct: it is far more likely that your details have been stolen by an employee of a retail environment of some kind than over the Internet. Another strong possibility is a security breach at one of the companies with whom you shop online. The best website security in the world is no use whatsoever if one of their support guys has access to stored card details in the clear. Companies are not supposed to store the CVV code that allows "cardholder not present" transactions to be carried out, but a distressing number do.
And of course, a "secure site" is no guarantee that there isn't a vulnerability on the server, merely that the communication between your browser and the website is encrypted... 10 million American T-Mobile customers may well be about to learn the hard way0 -
...phoned bank up who advised me to go get some cash out straight away and they would then block my card
That is absolutely shocking! You phoned your bank to tell them your accound had been compromised... and they didn't block further access there and then?!
I hope the bank re-credit the stolen amounts immediately, but if not (pending an investigation) you should make it absolutely clear that they must return the £200 as they are 100% liable for the loss because you had already advised them that the account had been compromised.0 -

I know , within the space of 15 minutes another (the 2nd) payment was authorised. I have just spoken to them again as I need to make a bank transfer on Tuesday and have been told I can't do this until I have got my new card, telephone pin, e-pin, and ATM pin but I NEED/HAVE GOT to make this transfer. I cannot get any details about my account, not even the balance etc, credits, debits or anything until I get my new card. Bl00dy frustrating  They said if the amounts are claimed (actually taken from my balance) then they will send me out a "fraud form", I then have to fill it in, return it, they will investigate with the "merchant" and if the transactions are deemed to be fraudulent then I will receive the funds back, if not - who knows. They stated they will not refund anything until the whole matter has been investigated and may not refund if the transactions seem to be ok. THEY ARE NOT! and I have told them lots of times but nobody seems to understand me anyway, maybe its my Yorkshire accent............

Thank you, have done this and it showed nothing - "phew"
Where can I find a Firewall, does Comodo not come with one0 -
As others have said, it's almost certainly been nicked through insecurity at one of the retailers you have used. There is little you can do to your own computer to improve your odds. It is also very difficult to determine how good the security of a specific web site is as there are a large number of ways they can lose your credit card details.
You could use something like the Cahoot webcard:
http://www.webcard.cahoot.com/webcard_what.html
This gives you a one-time credit card number that you use for a single purchase and the number cannot be used again. You get a new number for every single purchase. So if your details are stolen from the site it doesn't matter.
Another alternative is to use PayPal where available as your card details are then not passed on to the retailer. You then only have your card details with one organisation rather than lots of organisations which improves your odds of them not losing them.0 -
weller711.Comodo does a Firewall and a Antivirus have you got them both ?
Just a wild guess but do you shop at Play com ? as lots of people are having problems with cash coming out of their accounts for items they have not made.
Can you not go in bank tuesday and pay the cash in to the person you wanted to transfer to ?0 -

You failed to say which sites you shop with online, are there any new ones you have started to use? Are they all well established, well know companies? And just because they have a little padlock at the bottom doesn't make them an honest company, it just means that the information you are sending is encrypted at your end and then decrypted at their end, who is to say they haven't passsed your info along if they are a dodgy company. But I would hazard a guess that you used a dodgy cash point or a dodgy shop assistant.0
