MP's have a fast track phone line to sort out tax credit issues.

This doesn't sound right - last I heard they were processing around 60% if new applications (which this would be classed as) within the week and over 80% within 2 weeks.

Is there something wrong with your new application - are they asking for more information on some aspect? That should be the only explanation for your application taking so long.

You should ask them what is causing the hold-up - I can't believe it is simply stuck in a queue.

When they were having hold-ups on this scale last year they issued emergency interim payments - you could pick up a cheque from your local tax office. Not sure if they are still doing this, but worth asking.

Ask to speak to a team leader if the person on the phone won't help.
  • Hiya

They said all the info is there, the award issued and they are waiting for the computer to do the payment schedules. But they cant tell me how much or when.

I asked a rude nasty man I spoke to there earlier to speak to a supervisor and he said one will call me back within 48 hours.

They have forwarded my claim to the technical department.

Ive emailed the adjudicator too, who has emailed me saying they have forwarded my complaint to the head of tax credits
    Thank you :D

I would call them back, chances are you won't get the same person. You might be able to discuss it better.

  • Hi Fran

I did call them back and still they say the same thing. Its waiting for the payments to be sorted. They wont give a full name or extension or fake name or anything! so I never have proof of who ive spoken to as nobody knows who anyone is or cares!

The most diabolical system Ive ever known
    Thank you :D

I have emailed my MP a couple of times (thanks to Ted's link) and have got responses really quickly (and they have sorted both problems out for me). I suppose it depends how much your MP wants your vote and how efficient his office is. Good luck.

You could also go to CAB who can negotiate for you.

Incidentally, IR record every single call at the tax credit contact centres. All they need to locate it is the date and your NI number.

If you have received rude treatment from the contact centre, I'm sure the Director of IR Contact Centres would be interested to hear about it.

SnowQueen : if it has been forwarded to the technical team then your claim has been "stuck" in the computer system (vantive or vantech or something like that).

This has happened to me >:(, my claim has been stuck since June, phoned local MPs office and they sorted things out for me. Manual payment (giro) came by special delivery. Claim is still stuck in system and until they can find a way to sort it I will be getting giros.

If I hadn't contacted my MP I still would have been ringing every week to see if there had been any changes. Funny how they get a call from an MP on their special MP Hotline and they can't do enough to help!!! ::)
