Hi
I recieved a letter to say I had been over paid WTC and CTC to the total of over £2200.
I am in the process of applying for IS and my husband has left me, I rang them and they did an income/expenditure over the phone and said they would pass it to head office as a hardship case, but they also took details of my car !!! Are they likely to take this away from me
Also, does this mean I wont get CTC as the child element of IS? I am really worried as I know I wont be able to manage without the child element of CTC
Hoping someone can help
Thanks

Hi,
If you receive Income Support you should receive Child Tax Credit which has now taken the place of the child element of IS. No, they won't take your car off you, I can't imagine why they asked that, maybe they've started making extra checks on people (ie., if you suddenly bought a brand new car you might have income you're not declaring).
What is happening about your "hardship" - does it mean you are putting in a claim this week for a Crisis Loan from the Social Fund because you have no money?Torgwen.....................

Forgot to say - write to Inland Revenue straight away and dispute the amount if you think it's wrong. You can get the correct amount calculated by Citizens Advice Bureau for example, just take along your income details etc. for the tax year 2003-4.Torgwen..........

Thanks Fran
I have phoned them today to check the progress of my claim, they have said I would get more than the £13 I originally thought - but I still dont know if they are going to turn round and say I cant have anything until the overpayment is cleared ???
I havent yet applied for a crisis loan, I have chased IS too and they are hoping it will be done this side of xmas, I am getting desperate now, mum has lent me some money to buy food. My Child ben was supposed to go in today but they cocked up so I have to wait a couple more days
I dont know whats happening about the hardship case, they just said they would pass it on, I dont know whether they would write it off or not. They know I cant afford to pay it back as they went through my income over the phone - but I also cant afford NOT to receive it if you see what I mean0 -
if you apply for a social fund loan they take it out of your benefits over a period of however many weeks. i got my carpets and cooker that way. good luck!52% tight0

Hi
Just one further word of advice ... keep a log of all calls you make to Tax Credits - a lot of people posting on forums have said that HMRC (Revenue & Customs) have denied knowledge of calls being made. These calls will also appear on your phone bill - this is excellent evidence for backing up the fact that you contacted them.
Regarding the overpayment - if it refers to the pariod when you and your partner were together, then it will be recoverable from you both - don't let them try to saddle you with the total overpayment.

By this time I should hope that the overpayment has been resolved!!!0 -

Hi, try not to worry too much. I had an overpayment come through while I was on IS. I offered to repay £25 a month which they were happy with and although I'm back at work now, they aren't taking any extra from the TC I get, I'm still paying the £25 a month backTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

If you think it's bad now ... just wait!! The government are cutting 25% of staff and refusing to believe that there is a problem! We already have over 1million pieces of post on hand and we're nowhere near the 25% reduction.
All together now - If you're happy and you know it, clap your hands.... why is nobody clapping???0
