doomcow and tiddles journey to the altar

ok so im currently planning my wedding and am going to use this just to document my journey as I go and hopefully keep myself on track.
the wedding is 3 years away (i know, it seems like ages just now, but as you all know it goes fast).
So im going to try and keep this updated as I go and as things get done. No doubt my OH will be along to contribute also and give his side of things!
The story so far.....
We have been together for 2 and a half years now, friends for months before we got together. We moved in together and got engaged quite quickly, but have just been spending our time enjoying our life together.
So now we have decided to make the plans and take the plunge.
At this point we have chosen our venue http://www.glenberviehousehotel.com/
We have a second appointment for OHs dad to accompany us and give the final seal of approval before we part with cash and confirm our date.
We are looking at approx 80-85 all day, no extra in the evening at this stage, although this may be subject to change.
We were looking at an MSE style wedding, but we've fallen in love with the venue and have decided that it is worth the extra expense to have exactly what we want, so I'll have to be making as much saving as I can elsewhere.
I am going to make our invitations and other stationary. I've bought cards and envelopes from ebay, paper flowers (red roses and cala lillies) from ebay and hobbycraft, 2 colours of mulberry paper also from hobbycraft. So I have all I need to make the outer covers of the invitations, with the inserts to be made later.
I have bought my dress, and I absolutely love it. I know Ive still got 3 years to go, but when you find THE dress, you know!
http://www.ellisbridals.co.uk/ its style 11032, 5th dress in collection.
For the benefit of my OH.....if you peek I will have to kill you :rotfl:
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy the journey and share your own experiences also!

Congratulations!
3 years will fly in and well done for finding your dress already, that has been my biggest problem and I just found it a fortnight ago after searching for almost 2 years.
Your venue is spectacular and they are set up for weddings so can help you with the planning/timing advice based on their experience and maybe give advice on local services too.
You have started already but do plan in stages over the 3 years.I thought I had ages with a 2 1/2 year engagement so have taken it slowly, too slowly perhaps.
Enjoy the planning."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
thank you guys
yes the 3 years will certainly fly by, OH thinks we have ages...im sure he'll realise as we go along!
think I may make a start on my invite outers today since its my day off (woo!)
I have my wedding box with all my magazines etc in, so maybe a second for my bits and pieces that I've done is in order (and to protect it from the cats who love to steal pieces of paper any time they can get their paws on them!)

You are making a fantastic start so early, just dont go changing your mind about everything like I have. With longer to plan than average its way to easy to come up with bigger and better ideas or change your colour scheme entirely half way through:o."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0

Congratulations - your chosen venue is stunning. Your dress is very beautiful - I haven't even started looking at dressed yet - better get my finger out!
I agree with the others, 3 years will fly by. I too have a wedding box with all my bits and pieces in, I know where everything is then.0 -
Congrats. Look forward to following your journey. I would try not to everything too early as you may find you'll change your mind along the way or find something else that you love, so try not to spend your cash too early on.
Love your venue and your dress it lovely. 3 years will fly by! xLove MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
hi mooky
i know what you mean about changing my mind, at this point im only doing the little things that I have at the minute.
Like the invite outers for example, all the stuff I got to make them cost under £20 for the whole lot, so if i change my mind and decide to change them, then I've not really lost anything, and I have something I can keep for future to say 'this was my first idea/attempt'.
I certainly haven't done anything much at this stage really other than draw up a rough guest list to get an idea of numberso and make out my budget spreadsheet! (most important of all!)

blimey!!! I have put down a nice message for you and my connection disappeared...
Anyhoo, was wishing tons of luck and telling that 3 years might seem like a long time but it will enable you to do one thing at a time, unlike silly me wanting to pull off a weding in like 8 months!
One of my friends just got engaged and is getting married in Oct 2010, she asked for my favourites folder. I am not expecting you to like everything in there but it might give you a nice quick start for your supplier research... Would you like me tos end you the zip file?"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye
It's only teenage wasteland"

that would be brilliant!
thank you so much! ill send you my email address in pm.
i wouldnt worry about doing it in 8 monthswe would maybe do it a bit sooner if we had a bit more money saved, or the venue had any dates free between now and then. lol. theyre already booked for most of 2011! I even notice today that there are a load more booked even since we were there last week. so they must be doing something right!
im sure your day will be fantastic even after all the hiccups along the way.
