What this is all about?

Which? is currently running a campaign to try and get simpler energy bills for consumers as well as tariffs that will help people save money.

The aim of the campaign is to try and reduce the number of energy tariffs available (there are currently around 4,000!) by asking the public to email their MPs to ask for changes to be taken.

How to contact your MP

Which? has set up an Email your MP system, including a template letter at www.which.co.uk/energyaction

Simply enter your name, address and postcode and it'll find your MP and fill in your details on the template letter. You can then tweak it if you'd like or just click 'continue' to send.

Couldn't follow thru (error message), Wendy.
However, this will find your MP, then send your own message.

    Best not to mention expenses.

    Then choose ebico ;)

They already offer very simple billing, choice of payment plans (without penalty/incentive), all units at the same price (electricity unit prices vary by region), no standing charge or other hidden costs (and no hidden/complicated discounts either).

Bills are so easy to understand. Simply take your consumption in kWh and multiply it by the unit charge. You can't get much simpler than that! :)

Can't find the link now, but have read on this board that the Big 6 have complained to Ofgem about the amalgamated billing of Ebico.
You could say that it is not a level playing field.

Followed the elbico link and put in the gas and electric kwhs I consumed from my latest bill from British Gas. Elbico were dearer on electricity but slightly cheaper on gas. The difference was so slight as it would not induce me to go through filling in the forms etc. to change.

Given the recent reduction by BG earlier this month, the two bills would have been almost identical if their price redction was backdated.

The big 6 may have complained, but have Ofgem upheld that complaint?

The big 6 are probably very worried about the very simple & straightforward billing that is proving popular with over 50,000 customers at present.

It'll be a bad day for all of us if Ofgem were to uphold the complaint when consumer action groups such as Which are campaigning for uncomplicated billing structures that Ebico already offer :)

I think you've missed the purpose of this thread. It is not to obtain the cheapest price at the expense of all else, but intended as a discussion for those who are fed up with baffling bills & confusing energy tariffs (and what they can do about it.)

However, it's nice of you to confirm that you didn't find ebico completely uncompetitive as others will often try to assert.:)

In going for their simple pricing structure, Ebico believe that offering their product at the same price to everyone no matter what their financial status is the equitable & fair thing to do. i.e. it is often those with poor financial status that end up paying the higher prices with the major suppliers. What's more, their pricing structure does favour those who try to be economical with power usage - again in their eyes if you can afford to be extravagant with energy usage you can probably afford to pay a little bit more :)

Ebico are a non-profit making company. The big six, who are all in it to make profit for their shareholders, cannot afford to alienate the high users at it is this group from which they make their most profit.

More details of this on and why the company was created on the Ebico website here:

    Premier :
I wasn't complaining about Elbico using a simple pricing structure - I welcome that.
I suppose I was surprised to find that BG are not currently miles out in prices - they seem to get the lion's share of criticism!

Seconded! I'm with EBICo, love them to bits.

I also second the simple-bills thing, when it takes the employees 20 minutes to figure out the bill so they can explain it to a customer there's a problem.
