Parking Fine clarificarion

Hi,

Somebody I know was in a carpark this morning and there were no spaces available to park in, there was a corner which was not causing any obstruction to any other users of the carpark and as it's a motorbike it was parked up against the hedge. There were no motorbike bays either. They were also unable to see any signs advising of any parking fines or penalties. They were about 45 minuites and upon returning they have a parking ticket from a company call CMS UK Limited.

As it says it's a Parking Charge Notice (on behalf of the land owner), i'm just trying to clarify that this a Private Company or would this be a council isued (Penalty Charge Notice)??

Your help is greatly appreciated as they don't have the cash that they want for the fine, even at the reduced rate which is still more than 50% of the overall fine (£50 reduced, £80 full!!)

Thanks

Twisted Si, this is a scam.

I have been in a similair position, with another PPC (Private Parking Co).

Your friend can expect a few letters from CMS, each one more threatening (and colourful) than the last, then one or two from "Debt Collectors".

    Ignore

They were in a doctors surgery carpark of all places.... and not even blocking anyone in or out of any access.
Next time I need to go to the quacks i'm not going to take any risks, i'll walk and tell the doc i've been getting my exercise, lol.

    Simply ignore.

It's a long story explaining why, but basically unless it's police or Council issued you can ignore any other ticket/charge/invoice from any PPC [private parking company]. They can't enforce them.

As an aside does anyone know if the railways and airports have the same authority as councils [ie able to issue PCNs against the reg'd keeper cf the driver]??

Thanks for the reassurance, i will let him know. i just took a quick visit down there and the signage is bad, there is not a sign at the entry, there is one sign away from where he parked with a bush infront of it...., 1 is on an entrance to a different area and another is under a tree, they are about the size of an a4 peice of paper and not very visable, especially when it's tipping down with rain....

Just to confirm some further informaion regarding my friends parking ticket, I have been reading further post's on the site and kep seeing information about company's working on behalf of councils. Would an NHS carpark come under this or am I looking into this too much. I just want to make sure I pass the right information back as I wouldn't want to be responsible for saying that they can't be chased and they end up with a larger invoice.

    Thanks

It's a good question but happily not applicable.

Virtually all NHS/PCT car parks I know of are sadly 'managed' by the scammers.

Private companies do work as agents for the Council but the monetary amounts you have quoted confirm it is not a Council related ticket.

File the paperwork and do NOTHING. Dont phone, email or write.

    Eventually they go away.
