Is this one of those Nigerian scams?

Hi
I have a few items listed on Gumtree, one of which is a guitar amp (a Marshall JCM2000).
I have recently been contacted by someone saying they want to buy it and for me to send it to Nigeria (to their cousin). I'm guessing this is a scam of some sort but is there anyway of knowing for sure?
And is there any harm in having him send the money via Paypal SO LONG AS I DO NOT POST IT UNTIL THE PAYMENT IS IN MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT)?
Cheers
Max

Seems fair enough to me. Afterall if I was buying something over the internet I would expect to pay for it before taking delivery, so what's the difference? If you will the end, you must will the means.0

dont send anything to nigeria - it will more than likely be a scam, we had a problem with someone trying to get us to send a laptop to nigeria - sending false ebay and paypal confirmations etc.! i would be very doubious about it and would advise against it.£27.76/£2018 in 20180

There are other ways of transferring money apart from Paypal. As long as the OP receives the money first, I don't see why it should be such a big deal.If you will the end, you must will the means.0

Its a scam.
After they offer you a price for the amp much greater than you want for it :-
(a) they will post you a cheque for an amount much greater than the price of the amp, and ask you to send back the difference - this relies on their cheque taking a long time to bounce, but they will put pressure on you to send the item quickly for a 'birthday' or some event, thus you will be out the amp, and the amount you send them
(b) some sort of western union transfer that wont clear before you post the item
(c) some sort of paypal scam whereby you get a badly worded email from paypal / ebay saying they are holding the money for you
(d) a paypal transaction that doesnt clear, or does clear, and gets reverted by paypal after several weeks.0 -

It will be a 'big deal' because cleared funds will NEVER reach the O/Ps account. Funds might via western union / paypal / cheque, but they will not clear, bouncing after the item has been posted
Its exactly an approach like yours that the scammers live for.0 -

But you wouldn't send the item until you had the money - in your account, cleared and available for withdrawal. What is the problem ?If you will the end, you must will the means.0 -

^ Interesting read, i believe you are correct, all your assumptions of it being some kind of scam are almost certainly confirmed. Even if it isn't it is going to be a lot of hassle, i would wait until you get more local interest and sell it safely

Cheers - the o/p should play a long a little. It would be interesting to see what the angle is.
I dont imagine there is any world shortage of marshall amps, therefore why would someone want one shipped halfway round the world.
Amps arent light. Can you imagine the frieght costs? :eek:0
