Hi guys and girls,

A quick question , how do no claims bonus work?

I have built up a No Claims Bonus as a named driver with an insurance company, can I take that NCB to another insurance company?

If so, how? Do I just state how many years NCB I have? How do they confirm it? Otherwise that would be open to abuse right?

Thanks in advance

    Yes you can transfer it.

It will ask you how many years NCB you have.

When you receive your paper work they will ask for a copy of your last insurance with proof of your NCB. You just send that to your new insurance firm

Normally you have to send confirmation to your new insurers of your current no claims discount. When I renewed mine i sent off my renewal notice from my old company which stated how many years no claims I had.

It may be worth mentioning it to your new insurers. They may contact the old one or more likely ask you to contact the old insurers and ask for a letter of proof.

Give your current insurers a ring first and ask them if the renewal has been sent out and if the renewal notices states how many NCD you currently have..to save you hassle down the line.

ok, i just had a look at my older previous renewal notices and its says on there, "premium with 5 years(maximum) No CLaims Bonus discount...£XXX.XX"

my question is, 1)why is it only max 5 years that i am allowed?
    2) if o dont receive my renewal for this year, i will still have 5 years no claims, so i can use last years renewal notice to show to my new insurers proving 5 NCB, any thing wrong with that?

    thanks for the help BTW

my current insurer state that i need to pay £179, as a named driver(my son) is on the policy was on there as a spose, not as my son(not sure how they got that one wrong). Just checked my old policy and my sons name is mentioned on the policy as a named driver but not as a spouse or son( how was i suppose to know that they has him on as a spouse then?)

they state that i need to pay the £179 before i can receive my renewal?

    is that normal?
