Hi, not sure where to post this, but here seems a good a place as any.
We have just bought a new mattress from Bensons Beds. It arrived today, It is now unpacked and laying on our bed. This evening I saw an advert and guess what, Bensons are now having a half price sale. Is there anyway that we can take advantage of this sale, hopefully without having to arrange for the bed to be picked or us return it?
Thanks D

They are always having sales, what makes you think it will be any cheaper?
Sleep on it;)0 -
I dont yet know if it is. But if it is and I can do something about it...0

You are having a laugh?
You bought it you took it home unwrapped it and are happy with it, and you now think you should try and scam some money back just because the price has (possibly) gone down????????????
get a grip!

So, my friend, I say friend cos wish not to be offensive. Do you truly believe this to be a scam? Should I, would you be happy paying twice the amount for any item.
Tell me if you would, what is the true worth when an item can be sold at half its original price?
Who's scamming who?0 -
You have already bought at price £X and satisfactorily concluded the deal, the retailer later drops the price to (say) 75% of £X, and you are suggesting you should somehow try something to get that lower price? Yes my friend you are trying to scam the company.
You entered into a contract at a known price, completed the purchase, took the goods home and unwrapped them and as you wanted to keep them, presumably were happy with them. Therefore both parties have legally completed their part of the contract of sale. You are now annoyed that if you had waited, you might have got a better price!
Would you be prepared to do it if the situation was reversed? ie If the cost had gone UP since you bought, would you be happy if the retailer came to you for more money? No, thought not!
It's a simple fact of life that after completing a purchase of anything, the price may subsequently go down or up, accept it!

Most shops have sales at least once a year, usually more, as most people knows. You can either use this knowledge and WAIT for the sale, or buy it at full price.
Saying that, I know that my missus has bought clothes, taken them home, then there has been a sale in the shop, bought the item back for a refund (unworn) and bought it at the sale price. I would never bother, too much of a hassle.0 -
I appreciate that it is a difficult time for retailers, but it not easy for the rest of us either & I completely understand where the OP is coming from. I understand your viewpoint olias but I really don't think it is at all fair to accuse the OP of 'scamming'. After all, this is 'MSE'. Furniture retailers are the worst for over-inflated prices & innumerate 'sales'. I too would be kicking myself if I were in the OP's shoes today. I'm pretty sure I have returned unworn unworn items of clothing & re-purchased when a sale has been on a few days after I purchased once or maybe twice, certain stores even advertise that you can do this (e.g. price protection on store cards),
My concern this case is that I believe that Mattresses tend to be non-returnable for hygene reasons I believe ( used or not), still well worth looking into though. Have you looked on their returns policy on Bensons website? I will have a scan for you later if I get chance. Also, crucially, I noticed that your msg was last night, did you sleep on it last night or is it still 'as new'?0 -
I too, would be really miffed if I bought something and then saw that the price had later been lowered, but I maintain that it is unfair to the retailer and a 'scam' of sorts to look at later tring to renege on a completed sale by somehow trying to go back on the original sale and get further money off the retailer.
Store cards may well have 'price protection' schemes, however these are incentives to get customers to take out the cards and hopefully make the retailer money in increased sales and high interest.
What the OP is suggesting is 'trying it on' with the retailer. The only way this could possibly work is by taking the mattress back with some 'made up' excuse for the return, then re purchasing it at the lower sale price. This would be 'scamming' the retailer. If we are talking about money saving, then the answer is to search for the best deal prior to buying, or wait for a sale. NOT purchase at full price and then try to find away to get money back (which would only work by 'making up' an excuse to return and then re buy the mattress at a lower price (ie lying to the retailer.
If everyone took full price items back to retailers to try and repurchase at a lower sale price, then the retailers would all go bust! taking jobs with them!

You were obviously quite happy with the price that you paid. The fact that the retailer is now having a sale is just your hard luck. As this type of retailer is well known for having frequent sales, it would appear that you did not do your homework before buying. Now you want to scam the retailer into giving you a price reduction. Not on, I would have thought.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Ok chaps. Thank you all for your replies. I am now beginning to question my own thoughts on this matter now. Anyway, I'm new to this site and a few of you have used some abbreviations that I am not familiar with. These were 'OP' and 'MSE'. What do they mean?
I would like to thank all for their conduct while replying to this post. All to often I see people being rude and even offensive to others while using such forums. I really isn't necessary. And often reflects their inability to communicate. We can still strongly disagree without being offensive.
Thanks again.0
