Free Texts or Free Minutes for O2 Pay Monthly customers

Call 2211 ( its free call ) from your O2 phone, which will take you to O2 Treats.
You can select what you want, either Free Minutes or Texts. I went for option 2, which is 20 Free Any Time cross network minutes per month for the next three months. There is also the option of selecting Free unlimited texts during offpeak hours.

This is supposed to be available for only for O2 Pay Monthly customers who have been on the network for more than 6 months (don’t know whether it would work if you have been with them for less than that)……apparently it’s a way of saying thanks for staying with O2. (knowing how lousy they can be..…I guess they are surprised at the number of people who are actually staying with them….oh well, that’s another story….)

Enjoy!
My reality check bounced.

Fair play to O2 it's not a bad little perk. However, last time I got offered free texts, free texts, or free texts (at different times and in different quantities) but this is pointless for me as I get 500 free anyway. I tried again a few days later and was offered a different set of treats, inc some free minutes. Hence don't take up a treat you don't need, try again in a few days for something that would suit you better. Hope that helps someone :)
  • I got a text reminding me my last treat was ending (20 mins talktime) when I called auto service to get new treat I was offered texts or texts or texts (already have 1000 a month). Customer services told me it was because I had talktime last time (!?) but as my reminder text said I could choose between talk and texts I called back-I was then told that if your current treat hasn't actually finished, the type of treats you are offered will not include the one you currently have.......(bizarre) I called the auto service after my treat had finished and was given 20 mins talk as an option.
Why do mobile phone companies insist on making everything complicated?

Just got a text from o2 reminding me that my 'Free treat' ends on 2nd May and from then on it will be charged a £2.35 per month. Anyone else think that this is a bit of a sneaky tactic? How do I get them to remove this from my account?
  • I thinks its very sneaky. They should call it trick or treat. They appear to rely on people not bothering to remove them once the free period is over. Another case of no such thing as a free lunch.

If it is anything to do with the o2 Active then I think you are confused. I have received the same text - the free promo ends on the 2nd of May but you are only charged if you actually use GPRS at £2.35 per MB (not monthly!).

I think the reason they have decided to charge customers is becasue of i-mode which can surf at high speeds. This means more and more people will use it becasue of this and they won't make a penny from it.

i have been with o2 for >6 mths yet every time i ring 2211 it says they'll send me a msg when i am eligible - !!!!!!?
  • Just thought this one is worth bumping. Don't forget that even if you are not currently over the 6 months, you can still register to be sent a text when you are able to take advantage of the treats.
...and then the window licker said to me...

Can anyone confirm if you do get charged for the 'treats' after first 3 months? 10 free peak minutes would be quite useful, as long as I dont have to pay for them.

    Cheers
