A DIY guide to installing your own multi satellite system.

Options
My previous post has generated a lot of interest as to how to install a multi satellite system.

If you are someone who wants to be able to access 7-8000 channels all across Europe, then here is how to do it.

Basically you need five items and a clear view of the sky due south.

You need a pole, a motor, a dish, a receiver and cable.

The pole goes anywhere with a clear line of site to the sky due south. I am too old to go climbing on roofs so I stuck a 2 metre scaffold pole in the corner of the garden and filled with quick dry cement. Alternatively you can fix with 2 brackets to side of building or chimney stack. That is the hardest part finished.

Motor bolts onto the pole and dish bolts onto the motor. Facing due south. (It doesn’t matter if you are not 100% accurate, your receiver will be able to compensate to within a couple of degrees either way.)

Run cable from dish to motor and from motor to your receiver box beside the TV. Cable can be run through a ventilation brick, under a roof tile or just drill a hole.

Attache cable to receiver.

Receiver needs to know its location so you have to enter the latitude and longitude of your house. Obtainable from a satnav, Google Earth, Multimap, Ordnance Survey map etc.

The receiver does all the rest, it finds each satellite and scans it for all available channels.

For me the hardest part was putting the pole in the garden. That took about 40 mins. It took another 30-40 mins to bolt on the motor and dish and to run the cable.

Total cost for system with pvr capability was £190. If you want to get all the HD channels you should budget another £100 approx

There are many motors and receivers available I used Technomate receiver and a Digipower SG2100A motor.
