I thought I’d start one to show Asda’s greedy profiteering, they’re very fond of bragging about price "roll backs" – it’s about time their price hikes were highlighted
To start the ball "rolling"
Asda 5kg Charcoal Briquettes 2008 £2.47, 2009 £3.47
Don't "roll over" and accept it call Asda Customer Service Freephone 0500 100055 and ask for the reasons behind these rip offs

Asda's pet food especially own brand cat and dog meat has shot up in price the same of Tesco it is getting cheaper to buy Pedigree ,Butchers and the like now.
I used to get 24 cans of Asda or Tesco premium dog meat for about £8.00 now it is £10-11 depending on where i go. Same with cat meat i now find it cheaper to go to the likes of Pets at home,Kennelgate or Morrisons to find the offers.0 -
yes -the 24 tins of own brand cat food were £7 something now £9 something in a matter of weeks. And the latest batch of cat litter is more dust than granules.
But hey! It's zero inflation so you can't have a pay rise this year0 -
Raw material costs are higher, like most things that go up they dont come back down, so when fuel went up hauliers moved the price up, when it fell they said they could not drop prices as other charges had gone up they then weakened but put on a surcharge so they could get the money back that way. Also the Euro as most know is a nightmare and year on year about 20% down against the Pound so could be the reason !
We are an Island who import far too much so expect it to be like that until the Euro starts to weaken."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Which Supermarkets Customer Service Department do you work for ?:D
That is the easiest excuse in the world to trot out - the weakness of the Pound. What about oil prices ? Oh yeah they peaked then slumped, but according to Mr Tesco it still costs untold to ship goods in from whatever overseas sweat shop they choose to buy from. Previous posts talk about Pet Food that comes from UK Knackers Yards and the bottom has fallen out of the steel / tin can market, plastics/packaging costs have also plunged from their peak of Sept 08.
These huge percentage increases across the range of supermarket lines far outstrip anything that can be justified by the state of the Pound.0 -
I endorse Stamford's comments too. Good idea to start this thread on ASDA prices - put it in the pot with the information on TESCO price hikes and we, the consumer have a better idea of what's going on - knowledge is power!0

Oh i love asda "roll backs" .... heres a common example
ITEMX
Week 1 : price = 45p
Week 2 : price = 85p
Week 3 : Rollback = 67p (asda celebrate, advertise like crazy look at our wonderful roll back ... yay us arn't we great.)
No offence MrA i don't class that as a rollback thats a price hike of 12p in my book.
Another asda example ... this one i was cursing about in a most obsessive way for days.
Savory Eggs ... £1 a tub, i bought 2 tubs a week generally for months my kids love them.
A couple of weeks ago i went to buy some and oh-no ... new packaging.. hmmm big shiny special offer sign .. 2 tubs for £3. or £1.68 each
Ok so that's £1.50 a tub... hmm ok new tub maybe there is more in them, it looks abit bigger i buy 2 tubs, but make a mental note to compare it to the old tub.
Get home and yes they are indeed a bigger "tub" in that there is more packaging... but there isn't really much difference in the qty of eggs only 28g more. Which is maybe a single savory egg..
So they have basically justified a 68% price hike by giving us 1 extra savory egg... hmmmm ... then to make it worse the put up *special offer* signs making people think they are getting a good deal, when infact it's just been a huge plot to disguise another huge price hike....
tbh it worked for years with me, i honestly never used to think of how much single items where if i needed it i just threw it in the trolly end of story it's quite scarey when you start watching the prices what length's these stores go to disguise price hikes.
MrA im watching you!!!This months aim :- Stick to food Budget / find £100 for my car insuranceMay GC :- £250/£234.55 :T:A:TJune GC :- £150/£127.37:eek:0 -
Lol it is like some sort of army or police tactic now just planning your weekly or monthly shop:
I personally start planning my big monthly shop 2 days after the last one in that i have the basic monthly list and i start to mark what i don't need for the next one, then i start watching the offers and dates they end, then the week before i go and see exactly how much everything is then tot it all up. It is getting now that every month the basic things that have been on my list for 3 years are getting more expensive.
3 years ago the big monthly shop list only came to £150 so i had spare to get clothes etc, now when i count up the list and there is less things on it now i might add it always comes to over my budget at about£210-220 now thats a whopping increase and the likes of Asda sneaking up prices and offering "so called" roll backs aren't helping.
I have such an eagle eye now when out shopping and i do think Asda isn't all it makes out it is for example the adverts make you think you are gonna save loads then when you go there is maybe a handful of things on offer you need and things you don't need that you are seduced into by bogof's and the like, most things in Asda i find dearer than everywhere else and the deals not as good as Tesco although Tesco is guilty of bogof overload(why not half the pirce so we can have one instead of a bogof when we dont really need the extra one).
My Asda is a Walmart supercentre huh it aint no cheaper considering it is massive and boasts Walmarts cheap prices i sometimes question spending the petrol driving over there(it is about 8 miles away) and as for whoopsies or reduced items well it is very very poor and to be honest in 2 years of shopping there i have never had one as i have never yet seen one apart form a dusty looking shelf at the back that has a load of crap on it all the time lol.0 -
Asda Value beans and saussages were 29p 3 months back. Now up to 49p but on special offer of 29p. I think the price hiking is disgusting, Heinz saussages and beans 92p in Asda what is that all about?0

The limp excuse I was given is that the "supplier" had hit Asda with a 25% increase (I find this strange when there's a worldwide recession) but that it was marked for a possible "roll back" in future :rotfl:. no response when I queried whether or not this possible act of kindness on their part involved them or the supplier reducing their margin.
You've got to hand it to Asda they are not giving up chasing Tesco to chip away at their £3.13bn annual pre-tax profits.0
