Greek Island or Sardinia

Looking for a week away- preferrably somewhere where i can stay in a nice hotel on the beach- white sandy beaches with blue water ideally, but also want somewhere where I can on some days travel around- see some history / sights/ nightlife and maybe rent a car and explore and get to see a bit of the local life
i was thinking of one of the Greek Islans in which case which one do i go for as there are so many!- thasos, kefalonia or skiathos sound good with nice beaches and also places to see
getting to some of the islands looks difficult though and with rubbish airlines- is there an airport the main carriers fly to that I can then easily get a transfer to the island from
other option is Sardinia which i hear is nice- does this have good beaches and a lot of places to see, history, nice towns etc?
also which part of Sardinia should i stay
trip is for me my wife and young son
any advice welcome

Crete might be a good choice. Sardinia has good beaches, but for history and sightseeing Sicily and mainland Italy is better.0

you can fly direct to Kefalonia & Skiathos from a number of UK airports, so I'm not sure what you mean about:getting to some of the islands looks difficult though and with rubbish airlines- is there an airport the main carriers fly to that I can then easily get a transfer to the island from
Which carriers do you class as 'rubbish'?
I second Sicily as a suggestion.
There's lots to see, historical as well as Mount Etna.
I've been to both Kefalonia and Skiathos, both are lovely islands.
I'm not sure there's many places that you'll get WHITE sand though.0 -
We have been looking at Sardinia and the price of hotels is scaring us :eek:0

Thassos is stunning- and the food equally so.
Skiathos is stunning too, food not so good- but the Mamma Mia effect will mean it's stupidly busy this year.Only dead fish go with the flow...0 -
I have heard Zakynthos / Zante has amazing beaches but put off by the nightclubs and the young crowds as we are just a family with one young son and want beautiful beaches but not young drunkards
i am now thinking thassos or kefalonia- do they have nice beaches as good as zante?
also i am t hinking of thomson can anyone else recommend any good airlines0 -
The beaches on Thassos are beautiful- think sandy coves with mountainous backdrops. The water is very shallow for a long way out in most places too- great for kids. Not a young drunkard in sight.
OH went with Thomas cook the first time, we booked to go to the same place as a family the next year, but TC pulled out at the last minute so we went independantly- it was easy as pie. Thomson still go there, and I think first choice put Thassos in the brochures this year too.Only dead fish go with the flow...0 -
I have found that Thomson's planes have more leg room than TC

Just come back and yes it is more expensive than UK prices but I think you'll find any Euroland destination will hit your pocket hard - went self catering/restaurant option with villa apartment & used car hire through airmiles.co.uk (cheapest by far with AVIS @ £135 for a week).
If you like tennis (with coaching) can recommend tuscan tennis holidays for North part of Sardinia. They also do options for non-tennis players so if you just want the apartment on it's own they can probably do this. Nice beach in walking distance and very nice region. Book your own flights easyjet/ryanair to either Alghera (2 hour drive to resort or Olbia 1/2 hour to resort).
Want more info just ask

Just for info, the OP has narrowed his search down to Skiathos or Olu Deniz:
