Board for renting properties?

Hi,

I am not sure if I have posted in the right place, but was wondering if there should be a board/sub-board dedicated to property renting?

There is the mortgages, clear you mortgage boards, but nothing relevant to those of us in rented accommodation. I have loads of questions to ask, but I am unsure where to post them.

What do people think? Could we have a new board, please?!

If not a separate board, maybe add it onto the title of the house buying board?

Thanks for bringing this up AC. I would vote for renaming the house-buying board slightly. For example at the moment there is a thread in there where the question is about giving notice in rental accomodation after buying a house, so if there were two boards it would be more difficult to know where to post that kind of question. Renaming it would encourage the landlords and the renters on the site to continue giving each other advice, which is helpful, I think. A separate board might encourage people to ask specific rental questions but not as many people might see the threads.

Would "House buying, renting, selling and property prices" be too long? If so you could have "House buying, renting and property prices" and I expect people would work out that questions about selling are legitimate too.

I definitely agree that somewhere for us renters is needed, as there seem to be a lot of renters on MSE already and with house prices being what they are that will probably only rise.

p.s. Even though I'm not a property "owner", I go along to the mortgage-free boards for ideas to decrease my future mortgage by increasing my present savings, IYSWIM!

Think it would be a great idea alleycat, have a buy to let myself and looking into another so would be great to have some extra info from both sides landlords & tenants,

OK, I'm procrastinating about doing my real statistics research, but anyway I just thought I'd share - I just collected a couple of stats from the house buying board, as I noticed there were quite a few questions related to renting on there today.

Out of all the threads on the board, 15% (464/2988) mention "renting".

This proportion seems to be fairly constant - restricting the count to threads posted in in the last 3 months, 14.4% (155/1075) mention renting, and in the last month, 16.0% (66/412).

Now I'd say that qualifies as a proper minority, and so not mentioning renting in the board title is clearly discriminatory.
