npower annual discount

Sorry ! Yet another npower post ...
We received our first dual fuel bill covering six months 30th August 08 to 8th March 09, however I have searched for the promised discount which appears to be missing
A letter from npower in September 08 said they had increased the discount from £80 up to £100 from 1/09/08, in our case as existing customers the discount would be £95 March 08 to March 09.
I emailed npower cs and this is the reply ..
"Having checked your account i can confirm that your dual fuel discount was due on 10 March 2009. As your current bill only covered up to the period 10 March 2009 your dual fuel discount was not included. Your dual fuel discount will show on your next bill issued approximately on 2 June 2009.
I trust this clarifies the situation for you"
Well, no it doesn't clarify the situation at all, our next bill will be in September !
We've only been with npower for two years and the discount was applied last year in March but will be switching asap but I'd be interested to know if anyone else is having or has had a problem with getting them to pay the discount ?

Ok so they may have made a couple of errors in their response detail, but as you say, the bill covered you up until the 8th March 2009. Your annual discount was not due until 10th March.
You should see the discount on your next bill. If it's not there, that's the time to complain"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Is it possible to find a reason to query the bill. For example, if it was estimated, question the accuracy of the estimate. Provide them with up to date readings and ask for the bill to be re-issued. The re-issued bill will end after 10/3/09 and should include the remainder of the discount.0 -

The bill was issued on my actual readings DD so not estimated.
It seems ridiculous to me that for the sake of two days the discount of £95 will not be applied to the account until September (bi-annual billing)
I'll try sending another meter read anyway while I wait for them to reply to my second email0 -

I completely agree. Seems like another of the Energy suppliers many ruses. If they offer an annual discount and only bill every six months then the discount should be applied to the second six monthly bill.
If the terms say that the discount will be applied to the bill after the twelve month period do the terms state that for those on six monthly bills they will receive their annual discount after 18 months (ie with their third bill).
Manipulating the issue of a six month bill (or the calculation of the DD date) to miss each other by 2 days is very sharp practice. In addition to them to keeping your money for an additional 6 months it also has the effect of deterrring customers from switching.
Something Consumer Focus/Energy Ombudsman should be looking into.0 -

Thank you DD for picking up on this ...
A letter received in September 2008 says ... so you could earn £100 every year ...
Just copied this from the website which is exactly the same as letter received ...
"After you’ve been with npower and paid by monthly Direct Debit without a break for 12 months, you’ll receive a discount off your energy bill. Stay with us and continue to pay in this way and you’ll get a £100 annual discount if you buy both electricity and gas, or £20 if you buy just one fuel. Our new, higher discount applies from 01/09/08. Existing customers who are already eligible to receive our old £80 discount for paying for both electricity and gas by monthly Direct Debit will receive an apportioned higher discount payment according to their discount anniversary as follows. Date of discount payment anniversary September - November 2008 £85 discount received, December 2008 - February 2009 £90 discount received, March - May 2009 £95 discount received, June 2009 onwards £100 discount received".
I had two bills last year in March & September, the latest one covers 6 months September to March 09 and like you I maintain the discount should have been applied to this latest one :mad:0 -
Today I finally managed to get npower to admit that they had never passed on a single dual-fuel/direct debit discount in the whole NINE years I have been with them.
They tell me a statement will be sent out this week with my whole 9 years worth of energy useage, payments and credits I should have recieved.
Sadly they tell me that the maximum discount has only ever been £20 a year for quarterly DD/dual fuel. But its 9 years worth :j . Does any one know if there is a way of finding out historical dual fuel discount rates?
That's one job done, next the gas sculpting argument. I am so embarassed I have allowed npower to take advantage for so long, and should have got off my behind years ago and switched. Thanks to the fellow members on this wonderful site for giving us the encouragement to fight the bullies. :T Hopefully I'll be able to switch in the near future (once I have my money).
Good luck to the rest of you!0 -

Many thanks for posting emh - hopefully someone will be able to help with the historical discount rates as I have only been a customer for two years, shame on npower for not applying the discounts in the first place !
I am now wondering how many other customers may not have noticed that they haven't received their discounts, it's easy to overlook
Good luck with your sculpting claim, come back and let us know how you get on.0 -
No wonder Ofgem fudged their recent report into npower's sculpting. I'm sure if a regulator with sufficient powers and more importantly the actual will to do it, had a real good look at this company and it's practices there would be a wealth of material on which to file the report (I'm being deliberately careful with my wording, btw)...Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -
