Update Thurs 12 Feb. All free memberships have now gone. TasteLondon will be emailing the first 2,000 people over the next few days to let you know whether you’ve got one (this is not a competition, but due to server problems, it’s taking a while to work out who the first 2,000 were).

What's the deal?
Tastelondon is a membership organisation with a list price of £70 a year to join (though often cheaper deals c. £30 are available). It has deals, commonly 50% off at 800 restaurants in the South East of England. We’ve blagged 2,000 free, year-long memberships for MoneySavers.
How to get one.
If we can leave this for people who regularly eat out in london, that would be great so that those who get best value will use it; please don't apply just for a one off. Also the cards have your name printed on them and are non-transferable (so cannot be sold on eBay).
Where it works.
The advantage of the card over normal deals is you get a book with a list of the restaurants, which include many non-chain places, as well as bigger groups like Thai Square and the Real Greek.
Of course there are lots more daily updated deals available to everyone across the country in the restaurant vouchers guide.

As the weekly e-mail takes 18 hours to send, to make sure those who receive it first don’t snap all the memberships up, it'll only be available on Thursday (12 March).
If we can leave this for people who regularly eat out in london, that would be great so that those who get best value will use it; please don't apply just for a one off. Also the cards have your name printed on them and are non-transferable (so cannot be sold on eBay).
The first 2,000 applicants will get the memberships and they're likely to go at superspeed, so be quick. After they’ve all gone, there’ll be a chance to grab a one month trial membership instead (it will say clearly which one you’re getting).
Where it works.

Finally, if possible, call ahead and book when using the card; if not check before you order that it'll be accepted as some restaurants can get mardy if you suddenly produce it at the end of the meal.

without looking into the details (time / cost restrictions?), it seems a lot to pay for a discount card, if you were to buy one..?
wouldnt most places have ongoing deals anyway? I am sure the evening standard (for London) would also have something..
come on restaurant owners-i reckon they should be free, all the time, for everyone- get more people eating out, and boosting the economy..

Taste London is absolutely fantastic for people living in London. I'm based in North London and have saved the cost of the card ten times over in the last year. I renewed with absolutely no hesitation. Prezzo have now joined, and from what I hear, other big names are joining soon too.
If you eat out regularly, at least once a month, you could save some SERIOUS money.

I see ads for this card in the London papers all the time and it never costs £70 to get it, they always have special deals like get it for £29.99 or whatever, and last time I had a month trial membership they emailed me to say I could have one for £15 if I wanted. I didn't as I am not going out all the time to the participating restaurants and there are a lot of restrictions to consider but I don't mind the odd free month membership if I can get it. They keep your address on their database though, last time I tried it said you have already had one before, so will see whether I can get one this time. Wouldn't pay for it though, as others have said, you can always get money off deals for free these days.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

This is a great deal. I posted about the free trial that they had in the Metro a couple of months ago. I got the free trial card and then got offered the chance to join at £49.95. From what people said on here they would eventually try to get me to join at a lower price of £29.95, but not for another few weeks - in the meantime I was going out twice in participating restaurants, so I paid the £49.95.
I have saved the money easily back.
Just a couple of things to note. I use other schemes and pick n mix which one depending on where me and the OH are going, but with Taste London the good thing is that they don't give you a 'special' set menu (like Times eat out for £10 do). So you can order what you want and still get the discount.
I'd highly recommend one. And if you miss out, go for the one month trial that they do.

Does anyone know if you can share your card with your partner? There may be times when I would use this and my partner wouldn't be with me, and vice versa, but we don't want to apply for two cards if it's unnecessary as obviously, there is a limited supply.

I got mine last week. Went to Almeida in Islington on Thurs and saved £30. Now booked in at St Germain for lunch on Friday in the City.
So far so good, will report back near the end of the trial0
