I know this has been posted before but I thought it worth posting again and bumping to remind people who might be listing low cost items this weekend.
http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200902260859492.html
From 12th March 2009, there's no Insertion Fee if you’re a private seller and you list your item in the auction-style format with a starting price of up to 99p (eBay.co.uk) or €1.49 (eBay.ie). Final Value Fee rates are also changing.
Fees for business-registered sellers using the auction-style format will be unchanged.
Just remember though that FVFs have increased to make up some of the shortfall on these reduced insertion fees. Possibly still worth listing all that household stuff though that didn't seem worth wasting 10p on before.
In fact there would be nothing to stop you listing this Thursday for 10 days and then just continually relisting until sold, rather like a shop.

Also helps to explain why ebay has been so dead this week for new listings - so many people holding off 'til next week. Brace yourself for the massive upload of tat!
It also concerns me that there will be a number of "fly-by-night" hobby sellers, using this instead of becoming registered business sellers.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

I agree with your post entirely. I am sitting here now loading up Auctiva with all sort of [STRIKE]rubbish.[/STRIKE]. collectable items that I would normally have charity shopped rather than waste 10p on. I thought i might as well spend an afternoon uploading loads of items and have a new template to make listing as quick as possible.
I also agree that this will put a lot of sellers at the lower end of the market put off declaring themselves correctly as traders.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. hmph. I've just worked out that this is another way of boosting ebay's profits if you have lots of items that sell. If you sold an item for £10, under the old rules you'll see about £9.15 of it, under the new rules, you'll see £9. This includes taking into account the free listing.
I guess it means I can list all the junk in my house without the risk of losing money if it doesn't sell.
So it has a good and bad side to it!0 -
I would rather pay 10% to sell something, than pay 0% to sell nothing...<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

Regardless of ebay profit margins and the ins and outs of it all my Auctiva is running hotI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you list at 99p...
...then item sells at £8 ebay fees would be 80p - currently would be 10p listing and 70p fees - equalling the same.
If it sells at £7 fees would be 70p - currently 71p (10p listing and 61p fee)
If it sells at £5 fees would be 50p - currently 54p (10p listing and 44p fee)
So I guess that if you list at 99p and item sells for under £8 then you will be better off.
Although from ebay's point of view if they can tempt people to list at a lower start price then there should be more sales for them - more profit!
(Hope I did the sums right)
