Another company that has not cut gas prices.
Saying that" in 2008, we passed on the lowest gas price rises of any of the major utility suppliers"0 -
- 1. Electricity customers who will see a price decrease are those on standard tariffs and Energy Assist tariffs located in London, South East, South West, Wales and Scotland.
London-5.5%
South East-4.5%
South West-8.0%
North Scotland-9.5%
South Wales-12.5%
North Wales-11.0%
South Scotland-11.0%
Percentages indicate standard variable tariff decreases in these regions, effective on 31 March, 2009.
Taken from their website - typical, I'm in the SE so will see the lowest cut  :jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
I signed my mum up onto the EDF Price Protection Dual Fuel tariff last October, anticipating further price rises in Jan '09. Her gas is £564 pa and elec is £312 pa. The penalty for getting out of the PP tariff before 12 months is £30 gas and £20 elec (total £50). Should we pay the £50 and go back to the standard dual fuel tariff by 31/3, or wait and see? Can't see prices going up again before October, but will they come down further?
Not sure if this was a bad move or not. My view is that the gas price (which is 64% of the total billing) billing) has not yet come down at all, and she will have got through the worst of the winter at the same price as locked into last October. If they drop the gas price in say April/May, the summer savings probably won't cancel out the £50 penalty?
She is on the South West tariff. Can anyone offer a view on this please? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Would it not better to wait until all the major suppliers have made a move.0 -
If my calculations are correct then your mum will only be saving about £25 on her elec. Even if gas were to come down by the same (e.g. 8%) then she'd be saving just over £60 in total. Take into account the fee for coming off PP tariff and she won't be much better off, even with a gas cut.
Personally I'd stick with it for now. Unless prices come down hugely I think she'll be better off.
Someone else might like to clarify though - I'm not an expert ! lol:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
Thanks, I agree it's best to sit and wait and see what else happens to prices in the next couple of months. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I think they will be saying bye bye to me soon. How do these energy companies get away with it? How the hell does it not apply to the North? Does our energy come from somewhere else? Energy has dropped a lot since the massive rises last year. All they say is they are competative with other companies who are also overcharging. Government does **** all about it.:mad:0 -
So. For up here in sunny yorkshire it stays the same.
The reasoning behind this apparently, is that they are already cheaper than british gas up here so they don't feel the need to reduce the price. We are screwed for now then.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.
