Old Style Book - Recycling Tips Needed

Options
Hello everyone - next up in my plea for tips for Martin's Old Style book is 'Recycling' .....

Anyone got ideas on where you can get money back for your recycling efforts? Say like you used to be able to get a few pence back by returning your empty pop bottles a few years back, don't think anyone still does this (though I could be wrong?) so it's ideas like that I'm after......

post your suggestions here please
Cheers Sue

  • theres also taking your old clothes in good condition to dress agencys, not sure if thats what you want, but its something i do, they take a percentage, but at least someone else gets the use from them, and you get some money back.

also if you re-use your saisburys carrier bags at the till they give you 1p back for each one you re-use rather than taking a new one.

can't think of any others though apart from the aluminium cans squeaky has already mentioned.

I would think most OSers "recycle" for different reasons, other than to get money - save the environment and stop wastage etc. Thus you will find OSers filling the appropriate bottle/can/paper banks around the place.

Most 'recycling for money' that OSers do will be in the form of car boot and ebay sales - which will be covered elsewhere in the book :)

A quick suggestion - would it be possible to make a 'MSE Sue's Old Style Books' sticky, containing links to all the threads she has started on various topics?

As far as I know Barr (who make Irn Bru and others) still make glass bottles (usually only available in corner shops) and if you return these you get 20p back.
    Debt on 31/01/2006 = £6345.14
    Total debt today = £5663.50

Sorry to say Sainburys no longer give any money back for using your own bags, well not in Kidlington they don't, assume this is a national policy.

Buy and donate things, such as books, clothes and furniture, from charity shops.

Freecycle unwanted items in the hope that one day someone will be offering something you want.

Use fabric out of clothes to make the kids clothes.

Using worn out garments, remove good areas of fabric to make false turn ups on trousers that are too short in the leg. Add broderie anglais to the bottom of girls skirts to lengthen them in a pretty way.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T
