Buying a new TV, quick question.

Okay please dont laugh at my dumbness but here is my question:
I live in an area with poor reception. Can only get terrestrial TV via a roof aerial (but I guess thats irrelevant as the UK is going digital right?).
Have 3 TVs in the house. Front room one runs off Sky+ box, dining room one has a roof aerial and daughters bedroom has no roof aerial so is just used to watch DVDs on.
Here is my dumb question!
I want a TV in my bedroom. Argos is selling a nice LCD one, HD, built in Freeview etc for £449. Without access to a rooftop aerial could I put this TV on my wall and tune in? I mean just literally unpack it, plug it in and watch?
Cant really have an extra Sky+ box in my room as I cant afford to pay to have another BT line put upstairs.
Help this dummy please?

Did you know that you dont have to plug a Sky box into a phone line if youve had youve had it more than a year?
Other than that, unfortunately, you would need some kind of aerial plugged into the TV. Depending on the area you live, you might (And thats a big might) be able to get away with just using a small indoor aerial (As long as its a new type one that would have the bandwidth pick up the digital signal).
Check out http://www.freeview.co.uk/availability and see what it says about our area.0 -

You will always need a roof top aerial even when it's digital
>(but I guess thats irrelevant as the UK is going digital right?).

Run the aerial cable to an amplifier / splitter in the loft and then a new cable to each room they all get a good, clean signal. About £20 from B & Q there is a wiring example in the stores.

Why when you already have several TVs - confused??
>Cant really have an extra Sky+ box in my room as I cant afford to pay to have another BT line put upstairs
Why bother - confused

How - confused

Why do you need another BT line. Wouldn't an extension of the orininal line do or sky multi room?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Thank you for your replies, bar one that I thought was quite rude!
As I said in my first post, I am clueless with this kind of technology hence why I asked so many questions. I wouldn't have asked if I already knew the answers!
So in short: I shall venture to B&Q and seek advice on what is the best product to buy. I wont have a clue how to do it so will have to invest in a male relative with half a clue. Failing this, then I shall try the extension cable which I didnt know I could do before.
As for wanting to watch TV in bed, whats so wrong with that? I work hard and look after two very young children on my own. Its not like the TVs in my home are the latest ones out, they are quite jurassic actually, hence why I wanted a nice one for a change and why I thought I'd ask before buying!0 -
Another option is the video senders that argos and many other companies do. Plug it into downstairs and it will beam the pictures upto your bedroom.0

I have a TV in the lounge, kitchen, conservatory, playroom, and 2 of the bedrooms.
SHOOT ME NOW - I'M A SINNER!!!!!
OP asked a perfectly normal question and like she said - If she knew the answer she wouldn't have asked the blo0dy question!!! She shouldn't have felt that she had to justify her reasons for wanting one to a total stranger who didn't ask a constructive question.
There was no need for that kind of reply TS - apart from the 'splitter' info the rest was just pointless. There are always others who think they are amusing and try to belittle others aren't there Dolly?
Shame really.....0 -

Ok, well, we have just bought 2 new tellys and this was what we did...
We looked up whether our area was freeview covered, which it is, except our aerial isn't good enough for it.
We bought the new tvs, one is still in its box, and the other we bought a amplified indoor digital aerial for, which works brilliantly. It was £30 ish pounds in asda.
We couldn't do anything to our 'proper' aerial as we are only renting currently, so an indoor aerial works for us. However, after the switchover, if your aerial isn't up to standard, ie not receiving freeview through set top boxes, then you won't get any telly signal.
So... you have a few options.
a) Check whether you can get freeview yet. If yes, then buy the tv and get the outside aerial sorted for this tv and an amplifier and splitter in the roof. If no, then do it any way, knowing that you can get 4/5channels now, and more before the end of 2012.
b) Check if you can get freeview yet. If yes, buy the tv and get an indoor aerial of the type I described just for your tv. If no, follow the advice above.
On a different point- that sounds a lot for an lcd tv, especially at the moment- how big is it?:jMummy to 2 small 4 year old bundles of mischief!:j0 -
