WHEN i look back and remember all the idiots on here at the beginning of last year who were saying there would be no crash as the government will not let it happen and all is rosy so if you want to buy go ahead and do so.
(I see most of them have left here and not returned but a few remain.
At the time i thought they were dangerous people and got very angry with them trying to get people to buy because they had a interest in the markets...Now i think they should be ashamed of themselves at the way they acted.
When asked it turned out most of them were slumlords or estate agents and mortgage brokers(remember all them on here touting like tarts on the street)
I just hope a few listened and did not get caught out....
ANYONE REMEMBER SOME OF THE NAMES?

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I wasn't here then, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people 'come back' as a new user name.Fokking Fokk!0 -
........you should have seen some of the names I was being called three years ago, when I suggested there would be a Crash.
Of course then all I got was, it's different this time, new paradigm etc etc, blah, blah. I do wonder what happened to some of the overleveredged BTL bandwagon who used to make abusive comments directed at me and a couple of others. I asume some of them will be bankrupt by now, and others in serious financial difficulties. I have no sympathy for them whatsover.0 -

I agree that most were probably EAs or had some vested interest in the market, but I bet that a lot were normal people who did just not see this coming. The signs have been there for ages, but it does not necessarily mean that everyone sees them.
I have been a regular visitor to the House Price Crash website for years. There is some really great knowledge and analysis on there, but there are also people who were 100% convinced that a major crash was going to happen in 2003. I am sure people who bought a house in 2003, and sold it 4 years later at a massive profit are glad that they did not listen to them either!
People should really not make large financial decisions based on the opinions of others on internet forums. It is very useful to gauge the opinions of others, but the decision to buy or not should come down to the person themselves.0 -
House Price Crash...great knowledge...2003...opinions of others..
To be fair though. They were right about it being a bubble. It just kept getting bigger and bigger.0 -
The one that has always stuck in my mind is Dangerman. He had a couple of btl's bought in 2007 and he was only 23. He could see no danger at all.
Whatever anyone said he was ok, although he admitted to a small contingency fund and high leverage. It was 'so what if my mortgage goes up, I will just raise the rents'. 'So what if one my properties are empty, I can afford to pay the mortgage out of my earnings from my job'.
He had tunnel vision, a classic case of 'things will stay the same'. I wonder how he's gone on. Hope he hasn't lost his job or had to reduce the rents to attract tenants. Or both !!. I was scared for him but he had no worries.
ADon't believe everything you think.
Blessed are the cracked...for they are the ones who let in the light. A x0 -

Bit of advice Geoff move on and stop living in the past, markets change, opinions change, people change, so what ? It is what makes it all interesting.0 -
I don't remember any of their names - I can remember the names of posters I liked and whose posts I read with relish and a sense of delight at their ability to set out so eloquently exactly what I had been thinking too - a poster named Lavendyr springs to mind, for example. Wonder what she's up to?
Can't remember any of the idiots of the 'what goes up can never come down' school I'm glad to say. There was one real mug - a noggin something or rather - anyone remember?0 -
I find it interesting how the tables have turned.
Before long it will be impossible to predict that house prices will ever rise again without someone leaping upon you and calling you a crackpot (already there maybe).
To me there is no difference between the stupidity of the uber-bull and that of the uber-bear (other than the shape of their tinfoil hats).
Any way, at some point I plan to make good on my promise in a post about a year agoHelpWhereIcan wrote: »BTW From Q3 2008 I will be the resident expert on a site that will be constantly calling the bottom of the market and leaping upon every piece of good economic news as proof that I am right before carrying out guerilla missions to various forums to boast about how I have been prediciting the return of 35% pa HPI for the last 5 years so I have been right all along. Anyone care to join my band of followers who I can educate about the 'stupidity' of the Sheeple who see nothing but house prices falling for the next few years?
come to think of it, that thread was an example of some of the lengths some bears went to to hi-jack a thread and warn everyone that SquatNow and CGNAO were our century's greatest minds.
Having said that I may be starting to worry about martial law and mass euthanasia. I'm off to get a gun and a camping stove.

The really clever ones predicted everlasting boom in one thread and imminent disaster in another so they could return in a couple of years to quote themselves as prescient.
Thing is I can't be bothered to look for the posts now.;)0
