Big Asda Price Increases.........

Hello everybody

Just wanted to add my two pennies following a recent similar thread regarding Tesco.

Went into Asda earlier today and I regularly buy Asda's Smart Price Sardines. They were up (until very recently) 17p they are now 24p. I also picked up some Smart Price chopped tomatoes and these were 33p. I am sure these use to be about 15p  .

Just wondered if anyone else have noticed Asda sneakily adding quite substantial increases on to their products particularly the smart price range?

Cheers

Why people so surprised that supermerkets put prices up occasionally? The sudden jumps in price can be explained quite easily, they keep prices as low as they can, and for as long as they can, but sometimes the cost of production means that prices need to jump. The price would have still increased even if they had done it gradually, it would have been a penny or two over time, but the end price would still end up the same.

That maybe so but is it better to rise prices gradually or pi** your customer off with a 50% instant rise, because to be honest, this is whats happening, and its not just the odd line. Are you happy to turn the other cheek and say, hey ho, another rise, never mind? and do you really think they are keeping prices low to help you the poor customer? Get real, of course not, they are a business like any other, that doesnt mean they can justify such big rises.

as already stated, they keep the prices as low as possible for as long as possible, but there comes a time when they have to increase, everyone is quite happy shopping at these supermarkets whilst they are so cheap, but as soon as prices go up a bit, everybody starts moaning, what should they do keep the prices low, so they end up costing them money for you to take of the hands, and then go bankrupt, or try and make some money, after all they are a buisness, and by putting the price up in 1 go, they are over a period of time saving you money, as if they did what you want, put the price up gradually, then each week you would be 2p worse of by each item, and then you would be on here ranting that this weeks price is 2p dearer than last weeks, next weeks price is 2p dearer than this weeks, so on, so on, etc, sorry for the rant, and no i dont work for asda`s, dont like the place i hate it :D

Zenseeker and spaceman5, i thought we were here to save money, not do an unpaid job for Tesco and Asda as to why its right to put prices up so much in one go. I hear what you say, but the majority on here think its out of order.
  • Asda are no better or worse than any other.

24-33p for sardines in oil, 33p for chopped tomatoes and 55p for a litre of UHT semi is what you've been paying everywhere for quite a while now. It isn't better Aldi or Lidl, either.

It's nonsense that supermarkets strive to keep prices low for as long as possible. Their objective is and has always been the highest possible margin whilst lulling their customers into a fabricated sense of eternal price-dropping and cheapness. All of them. No exception.

    Comparet emptor. Buyer compare.

So Tesco increasing the price of 4-packs of Heinz Baked Beans recently by 50% is because the cost of production has increased? I don't think so. It's right for people to post these increases here to help people shop around.

i am not doing an unpaid job for tescos/asdas, i dont shop in either, 1) because we cant afford too, and 2) because we dont like them, we do most of our shopping in aldi, lidl, and farmfoods, because that is what we can afford, works out cheaper for us, and occasionally in morrisons, as i work there i get 10% discount, otherwise would not shop in there either, believe it or not i am with the majrity in that i do find some of the price hikes out of order, but also sometimes you have to realise that supermarkets do have to raise prices, all of them do it not just tescos/asdas but all of them, including aldi/lidl etc, the point i was trying to make not very well addmittedly is that you cant please everybody all of the time, if the shops put the prices up gradually they get moaned at, and if they put them up in one hit they get moaned at, dave
