Our road to recovery-The Big Year!

Hi all, well this is our 3rd diary since I joined MSE & this is going to be our most important year so far with debt busting & also with us getting married. Don't know where we'll be debt wise by the end of the year, but our aim is to pay for wedding without adding more debt & to pay off between £3,000-£5000 of debt by the end of the year. Our last two diaries have been a real rollercoaster ride & whilst there are some things out of our control(i.e. bathroom leaking) there is also plenty we can work at to start chipping away at our debts alot quicker. Finding out we owed over £1,000 more than we first thought & the £600 car bill in March last year nearly knocked the stuffing out of us & we were so close to consolidating, we're so glad now that we didn't. There is an average of £600 a week coming into the house & we have only paid £841.76 off debts & saved just over a grand for wedding, that means there is £29,000 left over for everything else:eek: ! Where the hell is it all going, ok there's mortgage payments, debt payments & bills but even so, we should be clearing aot more debt than we have! So this weekend will be spent doing a new SOA to see exactly where it's all going! Been asked if I want to work a few hours Sunday & whilst the weather's like it is & we haven't any plans for the weekend, I may aswell earn around £50 rather than spend Sunday morning in bed or in front of T.V.! Last month was a tough month with working so many extra hours but I'm glad I did it, as it paid for Xmas & I need to try to adapt this attitude throughout the year to ensure we stay well on top of our debts. We have to look at doing everything possible cheaper & to work as hard as we can too. I have also got to do more to help around the house too & it is tough at times with me working 6-7 days a week & OH working 3-4 12 hour nightshifts a week, but OH does 80-90% of the housework. The house isn't dirty but we do need to de-clutter big time:o , & DD & I need to take some of the pressure off OH in this respect! I went through a phase where I went out with my mates alot & I did enjoy it, but this really does need to be a rare treat, as I was easily getting through £60 a time. So this diary will again be about all our ups & downs, but we will be definately be tryng much harder than in 2008 to start busting our debts! Thanks for reading & Happy New Year to all!!

Didn't want to read and run......nothing to add to the money side of the equation but for the 'housework' side, have you tried/read anything to do with Flylady!

It is very simple once you get into it......do little and often.....it'll take a while to get the the house in sparkling condition but you will get there.

Thanks Tinypaws, I have checked Flylady out before but never really taken up many of the challenge:o ! You're right though, the way our lives are panned out now we let things get on top of us regarding housework & then have a blitz, but not before we have an argument about how untidy it is:rolleyes: ! If we did a little everyday it would make life much easier in the long run. So I will check Flylady out tomorrow & stick to it everyday, also getting DD to help out more earn her pocket money too!!

I don't DO housework - I am a complete failure in that dept.......have tried flylady, doing a room a day, and taking a week off work to try and tackle it, but it never works. I have to just accept I am a slob :o

    Happy new diary!

Thanks Hypno lol! This is the only real issue in our relationship to be honest, even the debts don't get us down as much as the housework! Just had a butchers at the Flylady thread & we may not get everything doen on the daily lsts everyday, but we will defianately use it as a guide to getting alot more done than we do now. It came to a bit of a head for me last night when we went to my brother's for a NYE party. Their house is usually in a much worse state than ours & we haven't been there for a few months and the place was spotless & you could tell it wasn't that tidy just because they were having a party. So not like keeping up with the Jones's or anything, but if they can keep their house in order, so can we!! Thanks for reading & all the best for 2009!!
