TalkTalk to SKy - Has anyone done it without paying BT for new line?

Options
hi guys

we currently have TalkTalk which is LLU bundled so we dont pay BT anything.

I want to go to Sky for their TV package/Phone/Broadband but obviously i need a BT line.

BT currently charge £125 ish to be reconnected to BT

my question is, has anyone successfully moved from TalkTalk to Sky and got Sky to pay for the BT line reconnection?

what is my best way forward now? should i call Sky to see what kind of deal they would do for me?

Thanks in adavnce

  • You could do what BT call a return to donor if your
line was originally a BT line, you can get BT to reclaim
the line and your number from talk talk.

If you do that you will need to keep the line with BT for
12 months, but you can still get all services from sky and
just pay BT the line rental, I wouldn't move your line to Sky
tbh you will only save £1 per month over BT line rental and
it limits your ability to move internet providers if you wish to.

if you dont care about keeping your number Sky were doing a offer
where they would refund you the cost of a new BT line in a series of
    credits to your sky account.

Thanks Oliver, does this Return to donor cost anything? we originally had BT before talktalk.

So BT would take back the line, so we would be on the £10.50 per month deal with BT, then i could go to Sky?

i wouldn't pay Sky line rental, i think i would just keep to BT for line rental but still get Sky Talk (if thats possible?), we are wanting to keep out same number.

for return to donor do i need to call Talktalk to get MAC code from them? or would BT do all that?

It doesn't cost you anything no, I did the same just recently moving
from Bulldog, BT handle everything so you don't need to speak to
    TalkTalk at all.

The only down side is you cant order broadband until the line is
moved over to BT, so your looking at having no broadband for at
least a week, the telephone service is only off for about 30mins though
on the day of the of back to BT

I arranged it all online https://www.secureorder.bt.com/phone/weekendsignup/
pick "I have my phone line and calls with another provider"
and "Unlimited UK* Weekend calls Just pay line rental with no minimum term."

Fantastic, the internet really isnt an issue at the moment, even though we get FREE broadband from talktalk we dont use (cos of the 40gb cap) and use Virgin cable for our internet, but once we switch to Sky, virgin is getting canceled aswell.

so its just case of filling out the online form and thats it?
  • yep, then you will get a letter from BT with a date
the move will take place takes a few weeks or so.
  • this is very interesting news for me - i moved from sky to virgin last year because i couldn't afford to give sky my landline.

would the rule apply to a deactivated talktalk line ?

by that i mean that when i moved from sky & talktalk to virgin last year, i had a cable phone installed and i guess basically just cancelled the talktalk account.

so i have a BT socket in my flat that is currently either deactivated or just sitting there unused.

if i went back to sky next year, which i'm considering, could i do a return to donor on that line ?

No the line must be active for BT to be able to do a return to donor.

thats why you musnt call and cancel the current service with Talktalk
for example untill the line has been moved back to BT.
  • !!!!!! - thanks for that. i guess if i'd returned it to donor before i cancelled, going back to sky next year, if i do ultimately do that, would have been a lot cheaper :)

ah well .. you learn something new and all that
  • Wouldnt worry to much, I am sure BT will do the £29.99 new line offer
    again next year.
