It's a sign of the times when Brits know more foreign phrases than their own regional sayings. A new report conducted by Travelodge has revealed 85% of Britons can understand European phrases but only 46% of adults can decipher British regional dialects such as Geordie, Scouse and Cockney.

In a bid to test the nation's knowledge of native phrases and British regional dialects, budget hotel chain Travelodge polled 3,000 Britons and found we know more about our European neighbours than our British neighbours. Findings revealed;
85% of Brits know that a German 'Weiner' is a sausage,
