I don't know about you guys, but these are the types of holidays we go on, then we go abroad once every other year (Jamaica or America).
So these little ones in between are handy.
I've only ever been to Butlins, but may give Pontins a try. They sent me the brochure this morning, and I'm assuming they have the same deals on their site
https://www.pontins.com.
The one we'll probably go on will be:
Blackpool for 3 nights, half board £170 for a typical family of 4.
Anyone have any experience with them?

no experience, but i was sent a brochure yesterday (as a 'valued customer - no idea why lol!) and we're thinking of trying it this year. i've searched on here and there is a thread about pontins changing a booking (asking for extra money) because it was one of their 'theme' weekends, so i'd advise checking for those in the brochure. some of their parks seem to have a theme weekend (netball tournament seems most common) almost every weekend lol!52% tight0

MY GOD PONTINS ! MUST BE THE ONLY HOLIDAY COMPANY THAT NEVER UPGRADES THERE CHALETS ! IM FROM PRESTON AND OFTEN TRAVELLED PAST THE BLACKPOOL SITE EITHER BY TRAIN OR CAR AND IT LOOKS LIKE A CONCENTRATION CAMP FROM EITHER WAY ! ALSO WORKED WITH SOMEONE WHO WORKED AT PONTINS DOWN SOUTH AND THEY AGREED ...... MAYBE YOU KNOW DIFFERENT ?0 -
My only experiance of pontins is blackpool about ten years ago.
I wanted to come home the moment i stepped in the chalet it was DISGUSTING..If you want detail please ask.
NEVER EVER AGAIN!0 -
Uh- oh, bad news!
photome - if you don't mind sharing your experience i'd be most grateful.
We've had 4 years of Butlins holidays and something always goes wrong, so we wanted a change, but if it'll be pants, I won't bother!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
Hi Charlene
Like one of the other posters said Blackpool looks like a prison camp. The chalet we were in overlooked a square green playing area that was full of holes so not much good for playing on. The paint on the outside of the chalet and balcony didnt really exist, it hadnt been painted for so long and anything that was metal was rusty.
Once inside it just got worse. The chalet was filthy, we spent ages with cloths and bleach trying to make it habitable. The fridge was very rusty and the double bed was a bed settee that was very dirty and broken.
After reading this I am wondering why I stayed, I guess i was a lot younger then and a little naive, and we hadnt paid much it was a last minute BARGAIN.
I certainly wouldnt put up with it if I went now.
BUT this was all about ten years ago so things may have improved and there may have been things that I have forgotten, oh yes the swimming pool wasnt very appealing either
Like i said in my previous post I would never ever go there again.0 -
Went to Pontins Southport last year. Was absolutely disgusted. Just after I came back it as on Watchdog. Carpets very threadbare and disgusting - we would not let kids sit on the floor, mattresses - dont even go there and we left 2 days early. Could have cried when I got there but thought I could stick it out - no chance and I've been to plenty holiday camps during the last 10 years. It looks like something from the 1950s. Go at your peril.......0

We went to Pontins about 4/5 years ago and would NEVER go back again.
Soon as you arrive theres a funny feel about the place, we felt like we were going straight into a concentration camp .
The room we stayed in was not too pleasant, wasnt very clean and had a stale smell. It like a chalet type thing which had 1 bedroom. So our Daughter slept in the bedroom and we had the bed settee in the living area. There was a small kitchen which was ok...ish. Carpet was stained and walls were a bit grubby. Didnt ask for a transfer because from what we could see they all looked none to clever.
The staff were very pleasant, cant take that away from them but as far as the show type things they were not that great.
I would strongly advise you to go to Haven Sites, we have been to Haggerston Castle and Golden Sands and both were very enjoyable. We have never been to Butlins as they always worked out more expensive compared to Haven but hopefully we will try Butlins when I find a decent offer :snow_grin
If you want to try Haven then keep checking their late deals, some of the late deals are very cheap. The last cheapy deal we got was Mon to Fri in a gold 3 bed caravan for just over £100 which was very cheap for thae time of year.0 -
has nobody had a good pontins holiday? my baby will be on the move and my nephew will be newborn (3 families going), half of us have asthma too, it would have to be clean :-(
we've had lots of haven holidays, no problems. i'll look at butlins too.52% tight0
