Safestyle - your comments please (merged threads)

I've heard all the horror stories of a "friend of a friend" getting Safestyle to fit there windows. I would like to know about any people on here that have good things to say about there experience with them.
Just had them out and they have quoted me £4200 with £600 cashback for 7 windows with Beveled glass, a front door also with bevels with 5 windows around the door, he also said he would give us a replacement French doors for the rear of the house for an extra £200. I still have a few other companies to get quotes from, the only other company I have had a quote from is St Helens Glass, for the same as Safestye but there price was £5625 without the French doors at the rear of the house.

this may sound biased but, my partner is a self employed window fitter and will often point out faults in other companies window systems. Safestyle are well known for giving an over inflated price then bringing it down to make a job seem like a bargin. I suggest you get a few local companies out to give a quote and see if anyone you know can recommend a good company/fitter to you. Don't go with safestyle just cos you've seen em on tv. best of luck

Sorry but I have only ever heard bad things about them, but I guess they must do somethings right or else they wouldn't still be in business would they?

I had them do a previous house of mine about 8 years ago and the price was great though they persuaded me to sign for finance (never again) which was a complete rip off and nightmare to settle, we had a few probems with the windows mainly seals and lock adjustments and thats when it became apparent that once they have your (or the banks money) they really don't give a toss. Also beware of the 20 year guarantee if you leave your property it becomes void they in effect guarantee you not their shoddy windows.

i had safestyle fit my windows in my last house.
all i can say is superb.it cost me a little under 5 k for a massive front bow window with tilt and side openings.8 other windows and front and rear door.the fitters were superb four of them turned up and had it all done in a little over 7 hours.with not so much as a tear in the wallpaper.
i had a problem with one of the window seals and they were out next day and had a full replacement within a week.there was one problem they inflated the price by a grand when i wanted to pay cash.so i took the finance paid it for two months then paid all but £100 off so i ende up paying a little over £150 for finance and i cashed my payment insurance policy back off them so i ended up £250 better off
give them a go.

IMO, always best to find someone local, you can check out their work, ask a friend, neighbour, who has fitted theirs.

Anymore people got any thoughts of Safestyle, i've heard all the bad press, but I don't know anyone who has used them. As people have said if they were that bad, why are they still going. The salesman did say they have changed alot over the last ten years, they have there own fitters, and the windows they use now are alot better, so he said.

I suggest you wait until you have more quotes from local companies. I would be very surprised if you found that a national came out the cheapest (they have to pay for all that advertising after all), and I would not recommend a national because (with obvious exceptions, such as the poster above), trying to get problems sorted will be an exercise in passing the buck.

Oh, and all these "cashbacks" and "special deals to sign early" etc are nasty, underhand, high-pressure sales techniques. The locals will give you their best price and allow you to make up your mind at your leisure.

Make sure any guarantee you get is insurance backed, not the companies own guarantee. These companies go bust and come back under a different name and any guarantee is void.
