It's also is a fantastic idea for those worried about telling people face to face, there seems to be a stigma with some people that expensive gift giving is a must within families, it can be a very difficult time (when it really shouldn't be) feeling you *must* stick with what normally happens.

Works perfectly in IE7. It's a brilliant idea, I just wish you'd released it sooner as I've already bought most of my Christmas presents!! Will suggest to friends and rellies that we do it next year though.

Martin has asked me to tell you that I'm the Board Guide of the Telephones, Reclaim Bank Charges, Silver Savers and Scotland boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and I can move and merge threads there. However, please do remember, board guides don't read every post. Pressie? I'm not sure everyone would be happy with that word.
I'm thinking of sending the NUPP email to people who wouldn't have sent me a present in the first place in the hope of receiving some cards. (I'm joking.)
Torgwen.......... ...........
I'm a volunteer Board Guide on Techie, Benefits & Employment, Utilities and Small biz boards to help them run smoothly & I can move posts & threads but don't read them all. What a horrible idea! Just because a gift is unnecessary does not mean it isn't worth giving..
and NUP Lite - you are missing the whole point of gift giving if you start mentioning money!

PS anyone tried sending the email - was it all ok?
When I try to send to multiple addresses, I get "XXX is not a valid email to sent to", for all the email addresses other than the first one (tried swapping the order). I'm using Firefox 3.0.4
Nice idea. A modification on the idea is to do what some charites are doing. Still means money out of course.
A card is sent to the receiver saying the money for their present has instead been donated to the charity for something tangeable. An great example is Oxfam. eg one pays them £25, and a card is sent with a picture of a goat that provides milk to drink, fertiliser for crops etc. There are other items or services for more money or some for less.
We are going to do that, except choose our own charity, make the donation to one which we know would acceptable, send a card with a suitable message inside to say your present is a donation made to (for example) Marie Curie. Mind you the suggestion went down like a lead balloon
BTW the MSE email worked straight away when I sent it to myself!

If you look at the bottom of the NUPP tool you'll see we've listed those charities

Oops, so you have - many apologies!! I didn't look all the way down. I ought to know better than think I'd get one up on you
Martin, I got to thank you for all of this site. It's one of the best sites on the 'net with its extensive links to everywhere else. The forum is terrific, and huge. There never fails to be an answer to a question, as long as the question isn't stupid

While I think this is a good idea in principle, I do think it has come too late for this Christmas. I'd be really pi$$ed off to receive one of these emails from someone I'd already gone out and bought something for.
Could cause more trouble for some folk.
Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps. Take care over copyright. Use excerpts and links rather than copying long text. This site asserts copyright on all comments posted on the board.
