Recent Travel Board Issues
We're beginning to see more and more regular posters making judgements on other site users, particularly newbies on this board, and we'd like to take a moment to clear a few things up for all parties.
CONDUCT
We are mostly adults here and recently users are criticising others' posts in a manner that is unnecessary, to the extent where they're falling out with people. It's really not necessary and helps no-one, least of all the board and it just serves to make everyone's life a little bit more unpleasant.
If you notice someone's posted something you don't agree with please take care how you word your reply. The over-riding motto on this forum has always been "be nice to other MoneySavers" and we'd like to keep it that way. If you see someone has posted such criticism please do email the abuse team on abuse@moneysavingexpert.com and ask them to look into it.
Anyone who makes snide comments, is verbally abusive and a consistent disruption to this forum is in very real danger of having their posting privileges removed. People will and do make mistakes, it's only human. If you have a real issue with misuse of the board....contact us. That's it. We're here to sort this out and arguing on threads helps none of us. Just remember the age-old adage if you can't say something nicely please don't say it at all.
SEARCHING
Where possible we try to encourage every user to make the search facility at the top of the board their first port of call before starting a new thread. It's just up there in the top right, just under the masthead. Put your search term in (if you're looking for info on a particular website, using the entire url can help), click the option to forum and do a search and see if you can find anything already posted. It doesn't take long.
GOING FORWARD
So let's draw a line under this and start again. Remember what this board's about, remember not everyone is exempt from making a mistake and remember that we are all here for the same reason - to save money.
Be aware that the forum team will be taking a firmer line from now on and won't hesitate to take action if things don't calm down.
Thanks

Blimey ...... And there was me thinking that this was one of the quiet corners of the forum? The MSE Dictionary

blimey... and he's me thinking that linking to threads that answer the question, and telling people to search would be acceptable, but probably now that a snide comment...
but seriously andrea... we NEED, a "budget airline" thread, just to keep the regulars sane... why do you think i've nearly left this forum, because i'm fed up of not being able to help people, as the forum is BOMBARDED with ryanair/easyjet/ihavebeenrippedoffbyinsertairlinehere/blahblah threads...
just my opinion
i should go back into retirement now, before you ban me

sure, why not? i get some of the hesitation of other people who are reluctant to meet offline, but what's the difference between the internet and, let's say, a church? you didn't know these people either before you went to the "social hour". i also go to work related associations meetings and other personal and community interest meetings, and i see no difference.0

I find that people who involve themselves in forums in general are opening up relationships with people that they haven't met and both parties have only the written word to deduce what sort of person that poster is, which can be misleading.
It should be no different from in the flesh involvements with people, in that if you say or do something stupid, you would expect the other person in your relationship to pick up on it, likewise if you do something great, you will be commended.
I think the problem with forums is that some people aren't as well equipped to deal with others and that's where it falls apart. It's pretty true to real life. Some people will get on and some wont, but if you choose to frequent the same areas then you open yourself up to these relationships, and any confrontations that occur are normally down to your own actions.
I think many people get tired of posting. Too many cynics etc. Most people that I speak to that lurk or whatever enjoy the entertainment of the forum and the huge bank of knowledge, ...without necessarily liking too many of the characters. Each to their own.
It's a varied bunch and evidently if you can take something positive from your reading experience and instil this within your own existence then everyone's a winner.Self confessed Florida expertwith over 320 trips there!

Trouble is travel is subjective. People are buying a dream and get very upset when their (sometimes unrealistic) expectations aren't met.
When it is pointed out they are been unrealistic they get upset- frankly a forum that pats you on the head and encourages people to go for unrealistic levels of compensation is doing no-one any favours.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
