Just went to the automated recycling point at the Baguley (Manchester) store and was told they don't award clubcard points there, and there are no plans to start. How can this be? The store in Irlam does, but that's slightly too far to make it worthwhile. And they don't take paper...
anyone know if the Leicester whigston store gives points? its on the list but mrarnul's post worries me. its too far to visit regulary but i could save up and combine trip with other things if i knew i'd get points

Hopefully my local store will be doing this. The new list just says Glasgow so don't know if that means all the larger Tesco Extra stores or a select few.. will just need to wait and see. Will be great if it is!
Just been on the phone to customer services and they advise that they have now scrapped the scheme for collecting clubcard points at their automated recycling centres. It was, evidently, only a trial and it will not be returning!!!
My local Tesco store has one of these machines but when I e-mailed and asked if I would receive clubcard points for using them, the answer was no as customers were smashing their jars & bottles etc to make more recyclable items therefore claiming more clubcard points!!! Who's got the time to do that - not me for sure!
We use the Tescos in Southampton, a city which has council household recycling bins.
Up to now we have received points on everything including plastics.Today we go and recycle 120 items and get 12 points where in the past we would have had 30-40. I see that tesco have now changed their policy and are not giving any points. Now in any other area people may still continue to give their recycling to tesco who will make money from this rubbish themselves.But in an area where we have recycling on our doorstep, and to do tesco recycling is an effort, why should I take my rubbish to tesco any more? So now the council will get it and not tesco. By tesco not awarding points in an area with alternative easier recycling they will lose revenue.
I wonder how many other points are situated in a council recycling centre?
I can see this expensive recycling centre now becoming unprofitable. It breaks down easily and I find at least one of the operating points broken 80% of the time I visit.
We used to go to Tesco recycling plant every 2 weeks and would put about 300 items in. Went just before christmas and spent ages in the rain in the queue, put 240 items into the machine and got awarded 3 points. Went to customer services in store and was told that you now get 2 points for every 4 aluminium things you put in. Not worth us going to Tesco now to recycle, so we use the council bin that is collected from home every 2 weeks instead.
Was a brilliant idea from Tesco, shame that it was abused.
