  • But how much are the replacement inks for them?
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

They are not cheap. I got my replacement ink last year through Quidco from Ink Club. Last year it was £9 cash back through Quidco, now it is 15%. I do not know about these shops who fill your own cartridge, perhaps another member can advise you on this. Buy two and throw the first one away when the ink runs out!!

The ink costs a fortune and does not last long. The non cannon inks are a pain because they show empty all the time.

But... if you get your old cartridges refilled, the shop should reset the chip for you so that it shows full. If not they aren't doing their job properly.

  • The chips don't reset, so they always show empty

When you say "the chips don't reset", do you mean that it is not possible for them to be reset?

I've no direct experience because I've only had my Pixma for a few months and haven't needed refills yet.

However, I asked my local refilling shop before buying the printer if they reset the print level after refilling and they gave an unequivocal "yes". Were they lying to me?

Which shop was it, a local one or part of a chain? How much to fill?

Local shop, ex-chain. IIRC the refill was quoted at just under a fiver.

The reason I queried the "chips don't reset" post is because I believe that you can buy Canon print cart chip resetters for around £20, such as this one:

    http://www.tonerplusuk.co.uk/canon-pgi-5cli-8-chip-re-setter-615-p.asp

Similar items are available on Ebay, but tend to be sold as kits, including the ink as well.

[Edit: note that the resetter above is ~not~ designed to be used with MP210 ink cartridges]
  • Has anyone actually used one of these chip re-setters?

How does something that looks like a small plastic moulding actually work?

If one has already forced a Pixma to ignore an "empty" chip, will giving it a cartridge with a "full" chip automatically reset it to display full again?

    Mary.
