I started using this site a few months ago and love the freebies board! People are friendly and helpful to newer users, but I've noticed in the past few weeks some posts that are continually rude and abusive. It looks like it's being done deliberately to provoke a reaction. New users will start not wanting to post in case they are shot down in flames. This is just a suggestion- why don't we continue reporting abusive posts, but not respond to the person posting them. Starve them of the oxygen of a reaction- that's what bullies hate most. Hopefully they'll disappear.
Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong place....
Please.. if you want to reply to this thread, LOOK at the reason why I started it. It's not for personal disagreements.
The post that follows this one wasn't directed at me. The person who posted first yesterday has been removed (see my comment further down) :-)

I dont appreciate the comments, and will you stop the abusive PMs (Which have been forwarded to sainstscouple). Yes the Nestle thread made me want to join in the debate but Ive been lurking here for ages and that post infuriated me enough to get me to register.
I know you are a troll wasting_noalibi, but I agree with you on people posting spam on here- something which you seem convinced I am doing0 -
To call people trolls that insults been used before... cant remember who did it, I replied as a joke saying that person was a spamming troll in the pigsback thread... only because they were defending bd saying people should stop calling him a troll. Or am I just not with it and its the insult of the generation to call people trolls?0

Jolly good idea just thrifty - I've never actually understood why people reply to an abusive thread as these people just feed off it. Best to completely ignore and these people will be left talking to themselves0

it was me you called a spamming troll indelacio, but i knew you were just messing. still entitled to my view about bd though, so we'll agree to disagree there.
but i agree with the op, looking at some of the threads over the last few days, particularly today, it's a great shame to see some people being so snappy and unpleasant with each other.
it seems to me to be just a very small number of people who are out to stir up trouble and get us all biting each others heads off. best not to get drawn into it i reckon.
and with regard to the abuse button, that's a good idea just thrifty, to just use it to report abuse and don't bother posting that you have (unless it's an obvious spam link where it's useful for other's to know it's been reported so that the abuse team don't get multiple reports). that's how i use the abuse button, if i have to which is very rarely.
i also think the abuse button is getting used far too much recently.0 -

I'm the one who posted the original post about trolls from the "notice to newcomers part 2" thread over on DFW

I think it might get another airing on a thread on here soon, it seemed to calm things on piggsback thread for a while:oPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT NERD #869Numpty,Not sure why but I'm crying. Of all the peeps on this board you're the kindest & most supportive of all & I'm  &

LoL - I very rarely go past the first post with freebie link
might be why i did not notice anything wrong in here (apart from load of more spam links than a few months ago  )
ok - I also go see the last post to check if it says the offer has ended0 -
so... let me get this straight,
this was a thread to try to break the arguements through posters and its actually started another one....
seriously, what is going on?!
I think many things could be improved on the site, but when I joined, I read the instructions, its not my site, I do not say what changes -unless I am asked. For example, I can appreciate the need for duplicate posts on the same subject, for two reasons, 1 it doesnt always show up on the search link and 2 if your a newbie and its your first visit, there is a chance you wont even see the initial post.
Perhaps have a thread-like the cinema one or the sim card one thats always there on the first page where all the ongoing freebies are listed. But I dont think this should happen unless the person who designed the site wants things to change that way, its not my site, its somebody elses. its my job to keep within the rules, even if I disagree with them.
There is a fine line between a comment and an abusive remark, some are very out of order but equally with some its hard to tell.
Maybe confronting the person who made the comment is the best thing, if the recipriant (sorry spg!) doesn't feel offended, then there is nothing to say, if they do there is either an abuse button or they can discuss whats being said, another suggestion could be if the recipriant didnt feel able to say anything back/fear/anger/not sure, they could pose a question to someone else (maybe a moderator?) to ask the person if they were sounding off and angry/irritated or they didnt mean anything like that, it would also be good for people saying things that can come across as harsh to get some feedback, otherwise they dont really know when or if they are offending people.
Theses are just ideas, but equally no one has asked for them, they do not need to be implemented unless the owner says its something they want to do.
This is a site with rules, we all need to abide by them.0 -
I'm all for friendly chat on the forum but there seems to be a lot of these kind of posts/threads lately, which don't realy belong in this forum.
Maybe at least this thread could be merged with the other one currenty on the front page?0 -
Just logged on today and was glad to see a certain individual has gone. I shouldn't have been surprised that starting a thread about keeping the freebies board friendly might attract a comment from a troublemaker.
Sorry my thread was in the wrong place- I put it on the freebies board because that's where the problem was happening. Hope everything gets back to normal now!! :j0 -
I noticed months ago that their was a lot of nasty comments and wrote in as it is a shame. I would be terrified of putting in a freebie in case I did something wrong. The point of the site is meant to be to help one another and not have a slagging match. I know some people spam but most are innocent and how can we learn if we are going to be shot down when we are only trying to help. If people nicely explained to newbies their mistakes it would make life a lot pleasanter and I am sure then more people would send in more freebies, and the more freebies the more everyone gains.0
