£1 summer National Express coach fares

What's the deal?

The coach company National Express is running an offer with the Mirror newspaper to get journeys throughout England, Wales and Scotland at the bargain cost of £1 each way. It's given us permission to put the offer and link here. There are over 80 routes and trips include Edinburgh to London; Newcastle to Sheffield; and Oxford to Birmingham.

A year or so ago, National Express used to offer bargain £1 ‘funfare’ tickets. The price of these went up to £5, so this is an awesome bargain.

How to get a cheap ticket

You have to give it your email address and sign up, then search for a £1 fare. The next page will show all journeys on your chosen date. However, only a few of these might be available for £1. If a special fare is available, you will see "from £1" in the column.

This offer’s running until all the cheap tickets disappear, and the £1 fares are available for dates up until the end of September.

Where is this link from?

When we spotted the offer, we checked with National Express about the deal. It asked us not to use the link in the paper and instead gave us a special one so it could track how many people used the deal. Whilst the link has a special code, there is no commercial relationship between MSE and National Express.

9. Your ticket must be presented when traveling as a printed e-Ticket

10. Your seat is guaranteed from the location shown on your ticket, but if you wish to board at a later point, National Express will let you travel as long as there are still seats available – your seat will not be guaranteed.

11. You can get off the coach at a location earlier than the one on your ticket (with the exception of airports), providing you tell the driver when you get on, and prior to putting your luggage in the hold.

I saw this in the Mirror today, and after booking a trip from Manchester to Brighton and back for just £4 I thought I'd make sure it had been posted on MSE!!!

Still plenty of £1 fares left and such a bargain!!!

Thank you so much! My daughter finishes Uni on Friday and didn't know how she was going to bring back enough clothes to last her 4 weeks (that would include about 15 pairs of shoes!). Now her 2 brothers are going up to London with empty suitcases and travelling back with her. Total cost £25.

It would let me book 2 people travelling on the £1 fare, but total jumped to ordinary funfares when I tried to book for 3.

Megatrain link (http://www.megatrain.com/stops/) appears to be broken. Remove the /stops?

I've just signed up for this, only to then discover that the nearest place to travel from was 20 miles away. I checked out a few likely destinations anyway but they were all 'standard fares'. Disappointing.

I am in the process of 'unregistering' as we speak - ended up having to email them as this seems to be the only option.
