hi, I have spent a fair amount of time finding out about sat nav software for mobile phones which are not symbian based or smart phones. There are very few available and nearlly all require you to access through gprs or wap. Ideally im looking for software which you use to either download maps on your pc and then to your mobile, or have maps already in the software which i understand is not really possibly due to these phones not being able to handle these large files.

I have a nokia 6300 and an external blutooth GPS, can any one recommend any sat nav software that you can use that does not require connecting to gprs. I know sat navs are now getting cheaper to buy but more interesting in finding out if there is any software available. The ones which i have found are listed below but as i said most of these require you to connect to GPRS or if not are very complicated to use.

nav4all & amazegps are fairly good java implementations, but at present you download the maps for each journey, though they are hoping to change this to allow maps to be stored on your phone. The wayfinder subscription service allows maps to be stored (in the /other directory usually) but it will still connect over GPRS to confirm your subs are current.

Alternatively does anyone know of any software which you can use similar to an AtoZ ie search for roads on a map, like i stated in my orginal post for non symbian/windows based mobiles? Again without the use of gprs?

Just to provide you an update on this topic if anyone is still interested.

I have found the following two sites:

    the first is Mobile GMaps.

the seond and a lot more which is what my orginal post was about is:

We Travel - although at the moment i am unable to get it fully working on my mobile this seems the nearest match to anything like tomtom etc on symbian phones. The only disadavantage of course for this is that youdo need to have a memorey card to work on your java mobile due to the large sizes of the maps which i supose is reasonable. Bear in mind this is not a finish piece of software and youy can not expect it to be as good as the commercially available software for symbian/windows mobiles.

if you know of any others let me know.
