Just thought i'd let you all know...
I phoned today to cancel my Amex Blue, giving the reason that it is no longer the best cashback card (and also another reason i wont bore you with)
I was put through to the customer care/retention dept and basically the guy offered to credit the additional cashback to match my Citicard platinum (1% on everything).
Very generous-so i thought i'd share the conversation with my moneysaving expert friends

Thanks anyway
This card is hardly accepted at all outletsI owe £3233 @ 0%0 -
I've used it without problem at petrol stations, hotels, airports, restaurants etc. I use it for the weekly shop at Morrissons. There's not really much else I buy! Even Paypal take it for my eBay habit.
OK, it's not got 100% coverage but it's a great deal more than implied by the previous post. Can I help?0 -
Isnt it already 1% though? (providing you go past the £2k limit on it?)0

Just goes to show that by phoning to cancel, they can offer you a deal there and then. When you write to cancel, however (as I did), they just confirm the cancellation back in writing and that's it. I spent over 10k in the first year that I had AmEx Blue.
Of course, by not writing, they can (if they feel like it), come up with some excuse that they never received your request to cancel and shaft you that way (anyone remember the Singlepoint 4U days?).0 -

Yeah but I thought that only applied if you spent under £2000 in the year. For example if you spent £2001 in the year you would get 1% on all purchases and not 0.5% on the £2000 and 1% on the £1.
Its been discussed in the amex thread too and thats what I managed to understand from that too.
thats how the cashback is upto 2% for the first 3 months because you get all your eligible spend effectively doubled for the first 3 months and then once you are into the 2% bracked your eligible spend even for under £2000 would be 2% providing you spent over £2000 in that year. (hope this makes sense!)0 -

I thought exactly the same as you, but it is not the case. The cashback is 0.5% for the first £2000 and 1% for the rest. I checked it out on my last cashback credit.0
