OSPS cashback rules - read them carefully !!

Prompted by a thread here about a different set of rules, I decided to look carefully at the OSPS cashback rules which are none too easy to follow. I am a commercial lawyer, so do know how to read these sort of documents and I conclude that the rules are certainly confusing and, possibly, deliberately so !

One cannot claim until connected for 4 months and the documentation says that one should send in the most recent bill. On the order confirmation it specifically says "Airtime Bills, 4th ... bills").

One receives a network bill immediately after connection so the 4th month's bill actually comes 3 months after connection. Here lies the scope for confusion.

I was connected on the 2nd of the month (July). The bills are dated 2nd but arrive around the 6th or 7th.

I spoke to OSPS and was told the following which does fit exactly with the T&C but is not readily apparent from them or (probably for most people) easy to understand. It also potentially conflicts with the statement on the order confirmation mentioned above.

I will be able to claim on or after 2nd November. If I claim on the 2nd and my most recent bill at that point in time is the 4th month's I should submit that bill. If I wait a week and claim on the 9th, my most recent bill will be the 5th bill which I will just have received. I should submit that. This requirement overrides the comment on the order confirmation "Airtime bills: 4th ... bills" which I had assumed was there to tell me which bills to send in.

The moral of the story is, if in any doubt, call and clarify precisely which bills to send and when they must be sent. Cashbacks are obviously a minefield for the incautious.

On a brighter note, OSPS customer service was truly appalling when I ordered the phones. It now seems relatively OK. There is an 0845 number which is answered promptly and the CS agent appears to know exactly what she is talking about. Time will tell with the cashbacks ....

The printed blurb says "30 days from this date" without indicating what the date is ! The CS girl said one month from the end of the 4th month of connection. So if you get it wrong, there is no real leeway for a mistake.

last 2 times i spoke to them they lied to me: as in one week they told me one thing, the next it was something completely different.

Also phone them on 01270 504400 if you have inclusive minutes to waste

    .

Good advice, I just went through the same myself (with a few others) over a K750i deal they offered in May.
The other point to mention is to always photocopy your info. before you send it back and ALWAYS use Registered post. Recorded delivery will only give you a small amount of compensation if lost, whereas Registered will more than likely cover the cashable value of the vouchers you send back.
Also, wait a week and then ring up OSPS and get them to confirm that your claim has been entered into the system....them just signing for the envelope doesn't always mean that they're on the ball about sorting your claim out.
