Hi all, I am looking for some help. It is my friends 50th b'day this week and we have been invited to her party. I can easily make her a card but what can I get her or make her as a pressie that will not cost anything? How I wish I had stocked up my pressie drawer before Lent.

Can you bake her a cake? Can't think of anything else at the moment.
And can anyone explain to me some of the abbreviations that are used ... DS ... DD ... is this Debt Son and Debt Daughter etc?
brass... dd and ds is darling daughter/darling son

    I prefer debt son/ debt daughter - soo true:rotfl:

thanks for the explanation ... glad i don't have a DD or DS yet as no doubt my debt would be increased ten fold! i imagine it's one thing cutting back on stuff for yourself but another having to stop buying stuff for the kids!

ciara and seaxwyn - am going to PM you soon ... you make it sound so easy ...

can't decide what my first legal spend will be ... i think about it so often that i'm not sure that i can narrow it down! seeings as i also gave up chocolate and wheat for lent it's got to be an amalgamation of both ... maybe chocolate fingers, or chocolate hobnobs ... but i also keep fantastising about big macs (even though i generally don't eat mcdonalds i REALLY want one!!!). ... do they do chocolate big macs .. mmmmmmm

hey everyone - another 3 NSD's for me (plus one today) apart from a magazine which i brought for the train journey back from my mums. gggrrrr - after i brought it i realised i had my ipod with me so i could have just listened to that.

so sorry girls, but lesson learnt, smacked hand an all that and back on the challenge.

one question tho - are you socialising while doing this challenge? and if yes, how are you managing to do this without spending money?

    Hi poohbear

A cake is a great idea or otherwise, if you can print photos, or know anyone who can, could you make a little book of special photos from her first 50 years? Ask her friends and family for any nice pictures they have of her.

Thanks for the recipes brassiclint and lofty. Would you believe I have no golden syrup in stock - aaargh! I'm battling with my conscience over whether this would go under the heading of 'essential groceries'.

Hi winkle, I am not socialising.

I dont usually go out much in the evenings anyway so that's no hardship. But what I am missing is meeting friends for coffee while working in London - I usually do that once or twice a week and have resolved not to throughout Lent.

I have decided to make this harder by forbidding my OH to buy wine in the supermarket. We've had two bottles since the challenge began, and even though it was not me that paid, it still feels like cheating.

oops I lied, I did go out one evening with my mum and daughter, I posted about that above.
