Trafalgar,
I think you're missing the point on this issue. Follow the main link from the homepage and it shows some very interesting facts about this topic and the dangers it can potentially create. Sure toddlers may not be interested in the topic but increased exposure creates a sense that its normal for people to build up huge debts and have an easy solution - which as we know is not the case. Responsible education is the how this issue should be addressed with all aspects discussed, not just a 30 second advert showing one side.0 -
I have been following this closely from the beginning ,as for the facts (I presume you mean the poll results ,if I'm wrong please point me in the right direction ) while they do show something it is of a relative small section of just over 1000 people ,not all parents etc etc so if you take the poll as a whole it really doesn't show anything significant at all.Jazzycat wrote:Trafalgar,

A poll of the majority of site members would of been far more informative I feel
however I completely agree with responsible eduacation which is why I would feel more at home with a campaign asking for a balance not a withdrawal.
I'm also interested in people opinions of what should replace these ads0 -

The poll was held as a free vote on the website, so the majority of site members were welcome to vote. and 1000 votes is widely considered to be a suitable sample when conducting polls like this.
and why should anything replace these ads? The key is that Martin is currently asking for a withdrawal of the ads from childrens television -voluntarily from the tv channels.
It is a free market and there's no problem advertising to adults who can make the decisions for themselves in the wider context that they inhabit. However, advertising on Nickelodeon, targeting children , is exploitative as debt will become normailsed and become the obvious answer which springs into their heads when they want something in future, not being savvy with their money. Will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark?0 -

revenue, obviously if revenue is gained then lost, it will be acheived how?0 -
Hi Traf,
The poll was about parents and 1000 votes is generally regarded as significant (some polls are just 100 people! but 1000 is the norm).
I think the 23,000 people who've signed the petition so far is indicvation of the strength of feeling

hi Martin,
my problem with the poll is the same problem I have with all polls unless they are large and the results are explained from all angles...........now before anyone jumps on me ,I am not suggesting the poll was manipulated in any way
and as you say the petition tells it's own story.....................
that aside ,I have to say it troubled me when ,for instance, the early day motion states certain figures.gleaned from the mse poll
what it doesn't give are the numbers and is therefore misleading .............I guess polls just don't sit well with me0 -
Hi Traf,
with or without a poll the opinion of most would still be the same. You could increase the poll population but the results would be pretty accurate on a far smaller sample. I believe the poll only acts as an enforcer to the widespread public feeling - unfortunately today we need to justify everything with facts and figures to get anything done.0 -
So Martin, What are your comments on the 'SPAM' email?
.....
"this needs forwarding to everyone you know "
Should the thousands of members of this forum forward the email to Martin@moneysavingexpert.com ..... although I am sure you have a good spam filter :rolleyes:0
