  • Everyone here appears to be using Canned Chickpeas. While they are quick and easy, it's much cheaper to use dried pulses.

Soaking them overnight and then using a pressure cooker to cook them for about 10 mins (in enough water to cover) and cool down slowly isn't that much bother. A pressure cooker will do any beans in about this time. Just right for cheap winter soups. If you find beans have a mal-odourous side effect on your digestive system, don't use the cooking liquid in the soup/stew.

You could make chart with them except I don't know the recipe :-/

Have this round at Asian friends houses. I know it's got fresh chopped tomatoes, onions, potatoes and chick peas but don't know quantities and don't know what else (not much use really!!)

If anyone knows a recipe for this I'd love to try it myself. ;D

if you happen to be going on holiday to Greece that's where i got my last lot of tahini. bought a couple of jars when i was there last year and still going strong (though have almost finished the one with honey in - lovely on toast :) )

also, re: chick peas my tip would be buy tins. i think its false economy to boil them as takes forever (unless you have an aga which is on anyway) plus i always burn them!!  ::)

You can buy Tahini in lots of places now ... Holland & Barratt and other health shops and most major supermarkets.

Horrible tasting stuff on its own, but great with chickpeas :)

There's an excellent Chickpea curry in one of Madhur Jaffrey's recipe books.

One slight word of warning though: our copy bears the handwritten inscription: "Very nice, but keep moving the next day".
