Honestly Murph I wouldn't worry too much. I consistently cut it fine at Chicago with AA (connecting to Vegas) and usually have show tickets for the first night. Haven't missed a show yet ! :)
Best tip is once you are off the plane-walk quickly-most people amble and of course once you get to immigration pick the line closest to the US desks as once the US people have been processed they call people over from the nearest alien line.
Have a FAB time......and keep notes. We expect a HUGE trip report when you get home !!! :D

Thanks duchy, that is so obvious that I'd not even thought about it !

As for travel notes, it may consist of a list of the best childrens playgrounds in SW America :rotfl:

Of much more serious concern is my daughters health at present, For the past few days she's not been able to keep any food in and has been vomitting, a lot. Deep down, I'm thinking that it may be the onset of ChickenPox (MTK suffered the same way, & it is going around) in which case, shw won't be able to fly and the holiday will be off (or amended that significently that it bears little resembelnce to the original plan).

Fingers crossed that shes just suffering from a bug/ new molar / typical toddler ailment

Simplest tips are the best Murph
Poor kid -bet you're checking her every 10 mins for spots-but there IS a stomach virus doing the rounds too so hopefully that's all it is and she'll be raring to go by Wednesday

Does that tip still work at ORD?

Last few times I've travelled to the USA the "Alien" immigration line has been a "Post Office" queue system with a (usually grumpy) officer at its head directing you to the next free booth.

No, not really checking so often, just encouraging her to sleep it off as much as she can, keeping up her water intake and keeping our fingers well and truly crossed.

  • Aw I hope it's nothing serious and that you're all fit and well to go Wednesday. I hate the last few days before a big holiday worrying that things are going to go wrong, I just want to go!

My fingers are crossed for you :)

I'm liking the idea of staying a few miles out of the busy areas (Williams looks just like the town in 'Cars' the movie :D ) so thanks for the suggestions of Williams and Flagstaff.

One thing I would say about Flagstaff is to be aware that trains run through there all night so if you are a light sleeper, make sure that you are well away from the tracks.
I stayed at a motel on route 66 and the noise of the whistle as trains passed over a junction drove me potty. If you are going to stay the night check out where the tracks are and keep well away from them.

I know what you mean, 2 days before we flew to Florida last month my daughter got hit in the head with a rounders ball at school, then that evening my husband slipped on the kitchen floor and banged his head on the door! I

Fortunately they were both fit to fly, but if I could have confined them to a soft padded environment for the intervening 48 hours I would have, just to be on the sfe side!

Hope your daughter is feeling better soon Murphy.

We're (2 adults) flying out of Heathrow direct to SFO on a Virgin 747 (return flights) on Friday 13th June .

What's wrong with travelling on my birthday?:p:D
if your going to have a car in SFO, then try and book hotels that have car parking available (even if you have to pay for it) as SFO is the most car unfriendly place I've ever been to.
Last year we stayed at the Nob Hill Motor Inn which has free parking. I agree that you don't need a car in SF , but it was nice to be able to have a drive out to Muir Woods.

I wasn't struck on SF at first , but it grew on me and I really liked in the end. Another vote for Alcatraz here.
I didn't know about the law in CA forbidding the sticking of things on the windscreen so I'll get a dash/vent mount for my TomTom, thanks for that warning
I just had our Tom Tom on my lap! Wasn't a problem.
It might be a good idea to prebook your accomodation at the GC, as availabilty isn't enormous, and once its gone, its gone
I second that. Last time we went to the GC we booked last minute so could only find a room at Kachina Lodge. Luckily it was fine. It's hard to find a parking space near the hotels though and that was in September so don't know what it'll be like in June.

Just my opinion , but I don't think 1 night in LV is enough. I think you need at least 2 nights there so you'd have a full day to look around.

I heartily recommend Yosemite. It's absolutely stunning and i'd love to go back there.

    Have a great time

Hope your daughter's feeling better MTC icon7.gif
