You also cannot use the car during times of seriously reduced visibility, (I.E. FOG!) presumably if the weather changes you are expected to quickly find a safe place to hibernate until the sun comes out again.
Brake lights are not required on cars with no lights.(lights are required on ALL cars to be legal on the road), You have a right arm (hopefully
) to take their place.

The reverse light I think is via a switch on the gear selector / gearbox, take a look.
But if you don't want to bother fixing it. You could black out with tape all your lights, headlights, indicators, brake lights, and reverse lights and maybe numberplate lights aswell.
Remove the electrical plugs from the rear of the lamps aswell.
ROFLMAO. Funniest thing I've heard from ages. There's only one slight problem. The Construction and Use regulations which will state a vehicle of that age is fitted with direction indicators, stop lights and rear reflectors.
And for your information, reverse lights are not testable items.0 -

What happens when you have fog during the day when dipped headlights are mandatory?
Also brake lights are mandatory at all times.
You've never heard of it because it's absolute rubbish. There are exemptions for vehicles with no headlamps but they still require brake lights and indicators.0 -
And if your tyres are worn, take em off and drive round on the rims, if they aren't there they can't test em. Stone chips on windscreen? No problemo, take the screen out, just don't use the washers though.0

MOT testers manual
1.1 Front and Rear Position Lamps, Registration Plate Lamps Rear fog lamps
This inspection applies to: all vehicles, except those which either have no front or rear position lamps or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are
. only used during daylight hours, and
. not used at times of seriously reduced visibility.
If this situation occurs, the vehicle presenter should be issued with a VT32 (advisory notice) recording the above.
1.2 Headlamps
This inspection does not apply to:
vehicles used only during the hours of daylight, which are fitted with neither front nor rear position lamps, etc. (See 1.1)
1.3 Stoplamps
This inspection applies to all stop lamps fitted.
Vehicles first used before 1 January 1936 are not required to be fitted with a stop lamp.

Insurance,tax, MOT petrol etc, you could probably use taxis for less!!,or walk,(1 mile each way).

Its dam strange and I only know of this as I have a few biker pals that run sort of trackday only bikes, but on occaision do drive them to the track,
a) you can have a dylight mot ticket, ok, fine but
b) all rear facing lights have to be removed, ie, you can have no brake lights????? how counter survival is that?

Fascinating stuff, Wig, never knew that. Are you sure that MOT testers manual isn't from 1939 ?
So I wonder what the legal position would be if, for example, you set off on a motorway in perfect clear conditions, but the weather suddenly changed and the next exit is 15 miles away? Would it be permitted to park on the hard shoulder in those circumstances?0
