It was her only account she had when she was little baby. She is only a student and they have taken a large chunk of her money
They only started using it 4th she used machine on 28th only to check her balance
She should get it back as she didnt give her card details out other than using the machine but I am mad ate the thieves who do this because we all pay in end
Apparently its very difficult sometime to tell on the machines they can even make a false front to the machine
No disrespect - but NOW is the time for her to get her accounts in order and have current accounts and telephone/internet banking set up (with proper virus protection on her laptop/PC)
Obviously its not the best way to find out that these things happen but all the same its a good lesson for the future.
Ultimately it has not cost her any money so that's one good thing.0 -
She has internet banking but she can only do it from my pc as I have her passwords encrypted in a word document in a zip file in strongest encryption you can get. Her passwords etc like our own and a load of jumbled letters lower/upper case with numbers in too, so no favourite pet blah blah etc
We have proper security at home on pc, but I cant control what she does outside and like teenagers you cant tell them what to do she doesn't take any notice
I really only posted this to warn others, as know of these scams myself what I cant control is what others do0 -
Petrol stations are the most common place to get your card cloned, due to their high turn over of staff, and they use the cctv to get the pin code. NEVER let them handle your card if they tell you it's not working!!!!
My ex had £7000 taken from his account recently thanks to a local petrol station, and Natwest took weeks to reimburse him, even though it was obviously fraudulent!!
not all petrol stations are like this, ive used a fair amount from supermarket forecourts, independants and BP, shell etc with no problems,0 -
We hare having difficulties get all her money back. We got told it would take 5 days which I believe is 5 working days
On 15Feb she get refunded £280 taken out on 3rd Feb but no sign of the £290 taken out on 5th Feb
We rang Abbey up and now they say they only investigate each transaction separately even though the money was taken out in different town that we live in.
She is proof she didnt do it as she was at college and she got marked0 -
They will have to communicate with the LINK network thought to confirm it was a counterfeit card hence the delay.
Generally speaking if an ATM provider doesnt have a suitable machine (that verifies the pin as opposed to the mag stripe) they may become liable rather than the bank.0 -
Its odd they have to investigate each one when it was done in same city 210 miles away. She even gets EMA paid into her account which shows she must be present at college, she got ema £30 paid on 5th and 17th
They told us it could take up to month0 -

External cash machines are generally fine to use, as long as you know what to do and what to look out for...
Cover the whole keypad when you type your PIN in, and ensure no cameras can see what keys are being pressed - use an unfolded wallet/purse if needs be.
When looking at the machine, ensure the slot to input your card is flush with the machine, and isn't sticking out at all. Some machines, such as the ASDA ones are designed with a green bit of plastic that sticks out anyway so no devices can be attatched, but don't assume all cash machines have this!
Look at the screen and look at the edge. On a normal cash machine, there should be one layer of plastic/glass infront of the screen, and a small (about 3/4 an inch) gap between the plastic/glass and the actual screen. If you can see two layers of glass, it is likely a fake fascia has been fitted with a card skimmer.
As long as you follow basic things like these, then even if you do use a threatened cash machine, you *should* be ok.The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.
