Prices are getting out of control. I'm with Scottish Power it means my dual fuel bill will rise by approx. £5 a month.
What is the cheapest supplier for me now ?! When will the price comparision websites update thier websites with the latest prices so I can figure out who are the cheapest ?0 -

Life just gets tougher every year under Labour. What happened to those who are vulnerable or on low incomes? Well we give it in one hand, Working family tax credit, then tax the hell out of you and get it all back again, wonderful.
I hear warnings in the late 80's don't put your eggs in one basket and rely on gas to power us, mean while Thatcher witch set the trend close our mines and split whole communities down, and what for? So we get into the mess now.
I hear on Radio 4 the other day these plenty of gas yet in North sea that can still be used, think the chap said we are 80% reliant or something like that on North sea gas.
Just how do these fat cats think we are made of money.
Where is the bloody competition. One companies rises energy and they all follow, like lambs to the slaughter, big deal.
Life is tough and its getting a whole lot tougher too. You take one step forward and two back. Do they want the coat off my back next for when I am dead and buried. Oh no, I forgot I couldn't afford that, a paupers grave is all I get.
Angry, yes. PiXX off, yes. Sod em
The competition comes from the rest of Europe who pay more for their gas than we do.
Much of the profit for the energy companies comes from industrial customers. Scots Power has 5.2 million customers. If they decide to make no profit how much do you feel that would lower individuals household bills?
Our problem in UK is that we have got used to relatively cheap domestic gas and electricity. Even with the latest rises we still have the lowest prices in Europe and in real terms we are paying the same as we did in 1998 for gas.
The situation is not like petrol/diesel where the price we pay is inflated by the huge tax element. What do you expect the Government to do about gas prices?
I certainly agree that it was a huge error for Thatcher to dismantle the coal industry. Unfortunately that decision was influenced more by political motives than economic considerations. I detested Thatcher but she faced the dilemma of taking on a militant miners union who were quite prepared to hold the country to ransom; aided and abetted by the dockers and railway workers Unions who prevented import of cheaper coal. The problem is that the ‘cure’ has turned out to be worse than ‘disease’.0 -
The French have published a sizeable review (11 pages) of the price of gas and electricity across Europe. I'll grant you that the review is for January 1st 2005 and that since then prices have gone up everywhere.
But it shows that gas prices are the cheapest in Europe at the time, and electricity are among the cheap 50% of the countries. Don't ask me which price list they use to calculate that though, they don't tell. I would assume that they take a mean of the listed prices.

And in the meantime, I'll keep an eye on what Powergen will do ....0 -
ScottishPower have announced price rises today of 8% on electricity and 15% on gas from 1st March 06 on all tariffs except their capped tariffs.
The firm blamed a record 80% rise in wholesale energy costs in the past year for its decision to increase prices for its 5.2 million customers.
Scottish Power increased its gas and electricity prices last October. The firm's director Willie MacDiarmid said the company was continuing to absorb much of the impact of increasing wholesale costs. He said: "We have worked hard to protect our customers from this over the winter. However, we now need to pass on a further part of the increased costs from March when milder weather should help lessen the impact on bills."
